GPX Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 I blew the 3100 sfi in my '96 Cutlass in mid-December. Thanks to all those who responded to my sad plea, and thanks to your unanimous endorsement, I'm going ahead with the 3400 swap. Instead of the 3100 with 71k that they had originally found for $925, we now have a 3400 with 21k for $650 delivered. My mechanic just got the motor today, and I also gave them a complete copy of the 3100to3400swap.com PDF printout. What an amazing resource that is. They seemed thankful to get it and I'm glad because one hates to offend...Keeping my fingers crossed that they might have it ready to go by the middle of next week or sooner. Quote
Psych0matt Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 awesome! you should take a few during pics if you get a chance. Ive never driven a 3400, but i bet its better than a 3100 Quote

GPX Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 awesome! you should take a few during pics if you get a chance. Ive never driven a 3400, but i bet its better than a 3100 People have nothing but good things to say about this upgrade. I was pretty pleased with the 3100, so the 3400 should be really fun. This would be too big of a project for me in warm weather--I don't have a gear-head pal like I used to since I moved to the great white north--and I'm too much of a pussy to work in the cold so I'm spending the bucks with my mechanic (whom I trust) therefore I won't be taking any pictures. It will probably cost around a grand for the swap. The body of my car is a little rough but not rusty so I think it's worthwhile dropping in a motor with just 21k. They should be done early next week. Keeping fingers crossed. Will keep you posted. Quote
rockfangd Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 wait are you doing a 3400 swap or a 3.4 DOHC swap. i want to do the 3.4 swap Quote
slick Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 that is definitely a solid deal..... 21k miles for $650!!! Meh, thats kinda expensive. I know of people getting them for half that price, same mileage, shipped. If they are a competent shop, it should take them less than 2 day to do the swap, and have it running correctly. I know most L and J body guy's park there cars on friday with the 3.1, then drive the 3400 powered vehicle to work on monday morning. Quote
