Rushman04 Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 hey i have a 92 grand prix se with the crappy rear brake problem and i even put on drill and slotted rotors an that worked very nicely but once again the hard braking after a year warped them. I have read in the past about the 94 and up grand prixs having bigger rotors in the back and wanted to do so. I wanted to ask for the list of parts i need to do so. Thanks Quote
Q-Ball Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 There are so many. W-body's main page and someone with TGP Garage or something... I'm not on pc right now, but im sure someone else will help. You could also search it. http://www.tpsgarage.com/TGP/brakes/rear_brake_upgrade.htm and http://www.w-body.com/upgrades/brakes-rearcalipers94.html you could also do the fronts as i plan to do too. http://www.w-body.com/upgrades/brakes-rotors.html Quote
White93z34 Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 it all bolts right on, you have to remove the dust shield that surrounds it, and you have to be a little creative to make a parkning brake work again. i should do a write up on that... one of these days. if you are looking for a decent increase in stoping power, you aren't really going to get a large improvement. if you want callipers that don't break every 10k, and have a big ease in matniance you are going to find it. be sure to grab ALL the hardware off the donar car. any questions feel free to ask. pwmin Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 yeah, ive done a couple w/ using the existing parking brake cables. just requires a little bend on one side and a spacer w/ longer bolt on the other and removing some of the pass. cable mounts Quote

White93z34 Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 IMO it is stupid easy to make the 94+ parking brakes work on a older car, no welding required. the 94+ parking brake install i did was very straight foreward. like i said i have pictures of it all and will be doing a write up sooner then later. pwmin Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 it has been like 3 or 4 years since ive done them. i did 2 of redz's cars, both of which he doesnt have any more. i'd like to hear how you did it. if i get this other car, i will be doing the front and rear upgrades and i can take pics, but it wont be for a while. Q-Ball Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Well, let us know when you get a chance to do the write up. That would be great! Quote
galeharpring Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 First off, I hate resurrecting an 8 year old thread, but since all of the links seem to be dead, here goes... I am just looking to find out what cars I can pull the parts from to do this upgrade on my '92 Grand Prix and how much of a hassle it is looking to be. Thanks in advance! Quote
redgrandprix Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 I think its pretty much any 94+ w except for some luminas in 94, I just bought all new or reman stuff from parts store for 94 gp se with dohc Sent from my YP-G70 using Tapatalk 2 Quote
RobertISaar Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 yeah, any 94+ 1st gen except for luminas and all of the upper trim 96+ 1.5 gen cars should have the correct parts. Quote
Schurkey Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 How come everyone else has problems with original first-gen rear calipers, except me? My '92 and '93 have been entirely reliable. I'd have said that "upgrading" the rear brakes is a waste of time, money, effort, and enthusiasm. Quote

Speak for yourself......lol , I don't have any problems with mine, but then I keep them in tip top condition Quote
