Proper plug gap.

I am gonna walk to Canadian Tire and get some new plugs for the Lumina. My question is what is the proper gap for the 1996 DOHC? On the cross member it says .060, but in the owners manual it says .045? Which one is correct. Any suggestions on what plug to get? I was think NGK of some kind.

I would just get the delcos, but thats just me. And ive also heard both .45 and .60, but in all honesty, ive never checked the gaps at all on anything :dunno:

Damn it.....what are yours gapped at? If your car runs good....then I'll use the gap you have.

theyre gapped at whatever they came from autozone at!

HAHAHA you didn't even gap them? Haha, well a pre gap I would tihnk would be some where around .060 so, you might be set! But if it's .045 you might be getting a little more of a larger spark.

i have a 1996 Z34... and have run both .06 and .045 and havent noticed a diff between the two.

i have run:

-AC delco Rapid Frire's

-NKG iridium IX's

-Autolite Platinums #103 ( two heat ranges colder)

the best plug i ever ran was the Ac Delco rapid fires... the Iridiums were junk in my engine and setup. im runing the autolite's right now cause they dont make the rapid fire delcos in the heat range i wanted. my plugs even before i started tuning the car came out white. so natrually i need one range colder for normal operation. and with me pushing the spark advance the way i am now, another heat range was the best thing to do for safety.

yeah go with the AC delco rapid fires part number "12" and gap them to .045 thats what GM gaps theirs at, and all the people in the know about the car use this aswell.

Do whatever gap the catalyst sticker says.

x2

x3

Owners manuals are known to be wrong as it doesn't matter. EPA stickers on the other hand HAVE to be right...otherwise a recall is performed and the stickers corrected....since that didn't happen, go with the under hood sticker.

AC Delco is what works for me.

I have tried both. I got better MPG at 45, and am suspect that 45 is the correct value. 60 will work for you and is the value for the 3100. I have had mine gapped at 50 for quite some time.
