PJB
Hyundai Sonata? They have the 100k mile warranty and they dont look too bad.
SmokesGTP
Its gonna be tough to find anything big thats 2001 plus thats under 12 thousand. I'd say go for a base Buick Lesabre or Bonneville.
GnatGoSplat
2001+ BIG car for less than 12k??? Sounds like she's looking for something with REALLY stinky resale. I don't even think GM or Fords have resale that bad. She might take a look at a Chrysler Concorde or any other Chrysler product. They used to have just awful resale back when we were looking for a car for my mom. Not BIG, but they're bigger than most midsize cars. grandprix104
Not looking for resale as we will be keeping this one for a long time
GnatGoSplat
What I meant is 12k is awful low for a 2001+ larger car, so Chrysler cars are going to be the best bet since anything larger from GM or Ford is going to be more than 12k. gimp19
Hyundai Sonata? They have the 100k mile warranty and they dont look too bad. Aside from KIA it dosn't get much worse. Are W's too small?

cutlassdude96
you can get a brand new Alero for under $12K or even an Intrigue for that price.
GnatGoSplat
you can get a brand new Alero for under $12K or even an Intrigue for that price. I'd bet my left nut you can't get either of those BRAND NEW for under $12k.
cutlassdude96
Theres one dealer around here that has the Alero mark down for $10K off MSRP
GnatGoSplat
10k off MSRP doesn't mean it's gonna be less than $12k to buy. Besides, an Alero is a really, really small car. My friend has one, and he tells me the Malibu actually feels much bigger.
ismellrealbad
MERCURY SABLE GS....................those things PLUMMET in value. it wont have bells n whistles, but its a fairly large midsize car with ample power, and i can guarantee u might even get it for less that 12K.......you might even be able to get the LS with the 3.0 doch for around 12ish. that thing hauls major ass

Before I bought my GA GT, I thought it would be to small for my likings. But once I sat in it, I found it had more leg room then my Cutty! As for the Malibu feeling much bigger, that's weird. Their both N-bodies just like my GA. I think it all depends on how the interior is laid out. Aaron

Their both N-bodies just like my GA. I think it all depends on how the interior is laid out. I've ridden in my friend's Alero quite a bit (both front and back seat) and it's certainly too small for my liking, but then after getting used to my truck, I'm starting to feel like W-bodies may be a bit too small for me. I didn't believe him either, since Malibu is an N-body too (or so I thought), but he insists that it feels much bigger. I don't know, I've ridden in both, but he's had the Alero for a couple years so he's in more of a position to judge than I am. He doesn't like the Alero's size and would like a bigger car, but his wife is the opposite and likes smaller cars so the Alero was a compromise. ismellrealbad
a malibu felt smaller to me than my car in the front. i feel so crampt in the front of them compared to a wbody. the rear seat is another story
luminator94
What I don't like about my moms Alero is that the center console is to wide, I think that's what makes it feel so small, to me anyways. Who knows Aaron
GnatGoSplat
Heheh, I thought the Alero console felt very narrow! At any rate, as a passenger, I felt a bit TOO cozy with the driver. :yikes:
EvilDeadFan
It's true, you can find some mid milage Chryslers for quite a low price. In fact some are dirt cheap, but are fully loaded, and have a nice engine. If she wants power, tell her to wait a while for a used SXT, or find an R/t with a 3.5 in it. with 240ish horsepower stock. (Chrysler's rating.)

91GranSport
The early Chrysler LH-Series sedans are all piece of crap. Particularly the 3.5L SOHC 24-Valve V-6! If you think our 3.4L Twin Cam had problems, this engine had some serious problems! I'd stay away from Chrysler in general man! You can't go wrong with the LeSabre or any H-Body! That's what I'd recommend. H-Body, right? Damn, I think Shawn got me confused again. anyways, the LeSabre is good, whatever damn body it is. 2001+ BIG car for less than 12k???
