CSI_MuNkY
The last 2 days I have had a noise coming from the rear left wheel area. At first I thought my lugs had come loose, but I've checked them twice now and they are fine. The noise in question is very intermitent... sometimes I hear it over a bump, sometimes I don't sometimes I hear it going straight, sometimes I don't sometimes I hear it going around a corner (either way) sometimes I don't sometimes I hear it going straight, sometimes I don't The only thing that doesn't seem random is I don't think it happens at speeds over 60km/h (that I have noticed) My main worry is a wheel bearing, I don't know how old they are but they were on the car when I bought it in Sept 05. The same goes for the struts, that being said I've been told that the passenger side strut is nearly done for, so I'm thinking that the other side is just following suit. My only other thought is that I have a chunk of ice lodged in there somewhere, as it has been quite cold here the last few days, if got cold, the noise started. But, I would assume a peice of ice would of been dislodged by now. I haven't taken the wheel off yet, I don't have time and I live in an apartment (too cold to do it in the lot) I work midnights, so I sleep all day, the only time I really have to do it is at night, which won't work. Any thoughts? Jamie
jeremy
FWIW: when the wheel bearings in my old old '89GP LE went out the noice was constant...it just got faster as the car's speed increased...

Yup, you know when they're bad. Chances are your rear wheel bearings are original. I Know mine are and I have 220K Miles. I would guess its a strut or strut mount. CSI_MuNkY
So I think I figured it out! Didn't even take the wheel off. I was cleaning the snow off my car the other day and noticed that the black marks behind the tire (assumingly from the tire rubbing) had turned grey. So I'm assuming the tires are rubbing the body on the inside of the tire well. Said damage has been there since I got the car, its always had a bit of grey to it, but now there is more. Heres a pic of it. The tires on the car are the correct size as specified on the sticker in the trunk, so whats causing this? bad struts? if so, why would the wheel be flexxing back like that? Its happening on both sides, but right now I only hear it on the drivers side. Jamie
Q-Ball
The rear bumper I pulled off has those same 2 stripes. I really dont think your back end is rubbing. I think it would be horrible is your rear tires were moving back and forth or if your rear end had some flexing in it.
Turbo231
I think you'll find that typical on most B4U body kits. Excessive sandblasthing and poor paint in this area makes it look like that.
GOT2B GM
This may be a stupid question but are your trailing arms good (ie: not broken)?
Q-Ball
This may be a stupid question but are your trailing arms good (ie: not broken)? Well, I know he plans on replacing them with the gmpp trailing arms. Mine just came in, thanks to Dave.
CSI_MuNkY
This may be a stupid question but are your trailing arms good (ie: not broken)? Not a stupid question at all, I never even thought to check those! I'll have to check on them today cause that woudl make sense. Like Q-ball said, I do intend to replace the existing ones with the GMPP ones or maybe even the held ones. Jamie
