FordBoy Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Steering wheel needs to come off. need to fish wires out of column unscrew i think pull out and flip flop for reinstallation Quote
Crazy K Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Are talking about the big white switch to activate the brakelights located at the top of the brake pedal? (and not the turn signal switch?) IIRC It snaps in place, and then a 'locking washer' secures it. have you got a new one? if you do there is a peg, and that is where it is retained on the old one. Crazy K Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 I beleive that it is the same switch used in PMIII and regular car from 88-92(or 91/93?) I'm think it shoul not be that hard. In a few days I will have my manual with instructions (I think) i can read up on it then. I guess I could look at one in a j/y and help if someone doesn't know more. Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 I did this about 2 weeks ago on my TGP. I bought the switch new from O'reillys very cheaply, then brought the car to the local GM dealership- they put in the new switch for $80. I didn't wanna attempt to change the switch when it is -15* out here in MN. (no joke) That is the only time I ever let the stealership touch my TGP  Quote

Dark Ride Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 The Brake Stop Switch out of my tgp was slightly different than the one outta my SE, the TGP DIDN'T have the adjuster on it. I would personally suggest at least lowering the bottom part of the steering column (Do Yourself a favor and Do NOT Remove the steering wheel, i'm not quite sure why you'd need to remove it) or take the column completely out. It is 10X easier with the column out and you'll be able to see exactly what you are doing however the column can be a PITA. Either way it snaps into place and there is 2 sets of wires that go to it, both must be unsnapped before attempting to pull it out. Then there should be a clip/pin that holds it in place towards the back, (It is on the side towards the drivers seat and should be roughly right above the brake pedal) pull that out with a needlenose and then grab the entire switch and pull it down and towards the front of the car, you should hear a click as it pops outta place and it should practically fall out (if you've removed the column otherwise getting it out WILL be a PITA). That should help you get it out, Mitch Quote

Pain In The Ass and the only way to completely remove the steering column is to pull the plastic cover off where it goes into the firewall and remove the bolt that couples it to the rack and pinion. I wouldn't go that far, just remove the four bolts and set it off to the side, you'll have enough room then. Quote
