1991luminaeuro3.1
I got my lumina like a month ago and when i bought it the guy said that he took it to a garage and it's gonna need 800 worth of motor work. He said he couldnt keep the car running got it home the battery was dead got charged and it ran fine until it got warm so i figured it was the coil packs. I changed one two of them can't remember wich ones but it still did it. With all that said the car is now in a garage waiting to get worked on the tried pluging in the diagnostic tool to see if the could figure it out but i guess it wont stay light up so there sayin it might be the engine control unit i think they also said something might be wrong with the injectors would anyone have an idea of what it could be? sorry for the long post
Z34-5speed
What year Lumina? What motor?
Z34-5speed
Cancel that, i just read your name... Is the diagnostic tool for OBD-1 cars? Did you check the other coil packs?
Euro
check the coils for cracks, splittage, etc. And it sounds like the car hasn't been driving much since you replaced the 2 coils, so the 2 new ones should look newer than the one you didnt replace. if that helps you decide which ones are which
1991luminaeuro3.1
well after i got the car home and got it started i drove it a couple times just up and down the road it ran fine sometimes it felt like it didnt have any power but i never had the coil pack tested
DiscoStudd
Fuel pump, perhaps? I'd also change the fuel filter for good measure...
ns87
My car had those symptoms and I wound up replacing the computer, fuel pump, and injectors.... Save yourself the money and check your fuel pressure first
1991luminaeuro3.1
the fuel pump seems fine it kicks on when started the car is still in the garage as of now there saying it might be the computer so i dont know...and the fuel filter was changed how do you check the fuel pressure
ns87
Theres a little valve (metal cap) on top of the engine that looks like a tire valve. Buy a fuel pressure gauge (they're like $30) and put it on the same way you would fill up your tires with air.
1991luminaeuro3.1
thanks for the info ill have to call the garage on monday and tell them to check it i wish they would hurry up and get it done i havent even really got to drive it
Crazy K
do that first. otherwise here are a gew things it could be. On my 93 3.1 I've decided the injectors have gone bad. sounds kinda similiar to what you are saying.
1991luminaeuro3.1
right the garage thinks its the injectors or something deeper but i dont know what that could be and there also saying its the engine control unit
Crazy K
I always consider the injectors worth looking at anyhow. If you were able to do it yourself, I would test the OHMs at each injector and replace any out of spec. if you will have to have them do it, make sure they install all new O-rings to prevent fuel leaks! I think they should not replace the computer until the injectors are done first. W-body computers are not know to fail.
1991luminaeuro3.1
im sure there gonna check the injectors they have a used computer they were gonna test it on the car and see what it does

zoideraserb
don't rule out the fuel pump, half the time garages just throw parts at a car and have no idea. my old gran sport skylark had a bad pump.. i could drive 100 miles on the highway just fine and i'd goto stop when i got to where i was goin and it would die and not start again untill it cooled down, and in town it would heat up, stop, and run again.
