Spectrum
Okay, my car had DexCool in it. Orange coolant. Went in Tuesday for a flush and refill. Came back, parked car in garage. Today I decided to check and make sure it bleeded out and didn't need any more coolant added and got a little surprise. My overflow tank has orange DexCool coolant, yet I have green coolant inside my radiator cap. I'm not a auto mechanic, but that doesn't seem right. Did I just get screwed over? I'm going to FireStone tomorrow morning and then back there to bitch until they can explain it and/or do it right.
97loudcut
Umm yeah you got screwed over. First of all they should have cleaned out your overflow tank with some cleaning agent and topped it off. Sounds to me like they used and evac on your raditator and filled it with green coolant. Bullshit. Next time do it yourself, it is way easier. Pull off your overflow tank and empty it. Clean it out with some mineral spirits. Attach is back on. Unscrew the drain plug on the raditaor and put a garden hose in the cap and flush it out. Top the radiator off and you got a coolant flush! ShockTherapy
dex-cool and ethelyne glycol do NOT mix. get that corrected asap or you're gonna have brown gunk in every coolant passage that car has.
Spectrum
They flushed it out and put DexCool back in it. Should I worry about gunk? The car was driven maybe 5 miles with the green stuff in it and sat for 3 days.
mra32
Does anyone know what year GM started using Dex-Cool?
97loudcut
Does anyone know what year GM started using Dex-Cool? GM started using dexcool in 1995 and it was first used in the Chevy Blazers. They flushed it out and put DexCool back in it. Should I worry about gunk? The car was driven maybe 5 miles with the green stuff in it and sat for 3 days. Honestly, I would ask them for a couple flushes. I'd say 2 or 3. Do a flush, drive it for a couple days, and do another flush.

Euro
yeah i'd recommend doing 2/3 flushes just to make sure that the old shitty mixture isn't sitting somewhere in your coolant passages. better safe than sorry!
