ShockTherapy
i just Hand-Grenaded my 3800 seriesI in my 1991 Regal GS, i blew 2 Rods, destroyed half of my crank, and bent some valves. Just out of curiosity, how much would it be to replace the motor with a SeriesII, wat about a SeriesII SC'd ??? What would i need, and How much  $$$ ? Or, Should i just Have it Replaced with the Stock SeriesI and forget about a seriesII ?

Brian P
Stick with Series 1 unless you get a deal on a series 2 3.8.....get the NA and it'll swap right in
Panopticon
how did you grenade that egnine? I can't hurt it!
GnatGoSplat
I would get the 3800 Series II and just reuse the wiring/electronics off the Series I. It should work fine. The 3800 Series II usually goes pretty cheap so why not! It don't know if you can run an SC version off the same electronics. Even if you could, it'd probably grenade your tranny. ShockTherapy
how did you grenade that egnine? I can't hurt it! well, that's the thing, i did nothing that i normally don't do. one moring i started it, let it idle for about 5 minutes, i pulled onto the highway, and when i had it on I-80, i passed a guy at about 75, and boom, all kinds of racket, 3, possibly 4 cylinders still fire, but, i honestly don't know what i did, just: car-go-boom-go-make-bad-noise. 91GranSport
I can't answer your question as far as costs are concerned, because it all depends on how much you can buy your motor for and if you can do the labour yourself or not. Also, if you're paying someone to do the install for you, it also depends on how much they charge you. By the way, how in the hell did you blow up your engine? I have the exact same car as you and mine is as strong as hell! I have a '91 Regal GS with 180,000km on an original 3800 TPI and 4T60! i just Hand-Grenaded my 3800 seriesI in my 1991 Regal GS, i blew 2 Rods, destroyed half of my crank, and bent some valves. 91GranSport
No kidding, eh? As far as I know both the engine block and cylinder heads are made of cast iron and that engine is the most durable engine amongst all W-Body cars except for the 3800 Series II! how did you grenade that egnine? I can't hurt it!
91GranSport
I think that if you would go the route of having the Supercharged 3800 Series II you may as well throw the 4T65-E/HD in as well. I agree with you, the stock 4T60 probably couldn't handle the 240lb-ft of torque. I would get the 3800 Series II and just reuse the wiring/electronics off the Series I. It should work fine. 91GranSport
How many km or miles do you have on this puppy? Is it the original tranny and engine? Also, do you tune it up and change it's oil at the proper intervals? Even if you abuse that engine, it should still run strong! how did you grenade that egnine? I can't hurt it! well, that's the thing, i did nothing that i normally don't do. one moring i started it, let it idle for about 5 minutes, i pulled onto the highway, and when i had it on I-80, i passed a guy at about 75, and boom, all kinds of racket, 3, possibly 4 cylinders still fire, but, i honestly don't know what i did, just: car-go-boom-go-make-bad-noise. 95 3-4
my brother has my old 92 regal with the 3.8, cant kill it or the original tranny with like 184k on it........he recently drove it home down the interstate for like 5 miles with a broken off bypass hose fitting, never stalled on him or anything, still running strong that was earlier this winter.......plastic fitting how appropriate atleast it made it easier to get out of the intake
