gp90se
93 cutlass 3100 I know little about the car other then the cylinder compression is bleeding off into the cooling system, which blew the radiator in the car. an intake couldn't cause a leak that bad, correct? no way anything else could pressurize a cooling system to the point the radiator popped? I am assuming the car will need heads (car got real real hot) and I don't believe the 3100 heads can take any real abuse. Worth tearing into or just replace? 19Cutlass94
Well if you think the heads are that bad, that warpped, just replace them. The LIM, if gone long enough, can pretty much blow at every coolant port, and you would be surprised how much of a leak that would cause. To replace the heads on the 3100, its a fairly easy job, it just takes a long time. Sure its worth it, but along the way youll need basically all the top end gaskets, new themostat, oil pump drive seal o-ring, and prolly alot more. Brian P
Anyone do a compression check? Or just concluded that based on the cooling system failure? If that' really what happened to the radiator then yeah. If you need heads, they can be found for under $50 a set on ebay or 60degreev6. Especially since it's the first design 3100, make sure to get the '93-95 heads which use the stamped steel rocker arms, which might be even cheaper than $50 since noone wants them. gp90se
I will do either a compression or leakdown test if I want to save the 3100, but it's looking more and more like i'm going to but the buicks engine, my 4t60HD and whatever other new parts I have laying around. Brian, I am going on the word of the mechanic that has the car, but doesn't own it. Ill keep this thread updated.
