supreme_style21 Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Is there a way to tell if an automatic transmission has been rebuilt/replaced? I'm going to buy a friend's GP. Nobody who has owned it (That I have been able to talk to) has ever done anything with the transmission. The odometer reads 174,000 miles but Carfax reports that is incorrect and that the odometer has been rolled back, so who knows how many miles are on this tranny.. SO.. I want to know if this is the original tranny. I really doubt it is original, but just want to make sure I know what I'm getting into. Quote
Brian P Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Look for a tag around the bellhousing, unfortunately Ive seen some tags INSIDE the bell housing!! Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 What year is it? I seem to recall a tag that's easily visible being somewhere near the passenger side tailshaft of the tranny. It should have a number on it... last 6 digits (or something like that) should match your VIN. Quote

It's gonna be on an '89 Grand Prix LE coupe. Quote
