harrydunn Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Just curious how many miles some of you guys were getting out of this engine/tranny combination without driving them "too hard." I'm assuming most people's tranny's have died first. Quote

I'm assuming most people's tranny's have died first. You assume too much. Yes, there's been some blow outs, but I don't over 50% of the members have. I had my Cutlass DOHC with the 4T60-E and lasted (original tranny) to 174K miles till I sold it. I did run the RPM's up close to yellowline on some days, but with no engine modifications... something to keep in mind. - RedFox340 Quote
grandprix104 Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 100,000 on mine most people say they dont last too long. Quote
cutlassdude96 Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 just under 73K on orignal eng/tranny Quote
mdelorie Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 233 000 kms, doesn't burn a drop of oil, Transmission is solid as a rock. Quote
Robby1870 Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 As long as you take care of it, theres no telling. Just do regular maintenence and you should be good Robby Quote
Brian P Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 186k original 3.1/4T60...beat the hell out of it with regular maintenance, especially the tranny Quote
godofthunder Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 getting close to 119,000 miles here, and no problems. 3100/4t60e jon Quote
SmokesGTP Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 130k here original tranny and it shifts fine except for a slight delay on the 1-2 shift. Just enough to be slightly annoying. Quote
Majisto Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Is the 4T60E what is used in the 3.1 Century? If so, mine went about 110K before it gave up the ghost It was a good transmission. GM's trans-axle is much smoother than the Ford version. Shits a bit quicker. Quote
Slade901 Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 160,xxx miles with original engine/tranny. Quote
Brian P Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 where's the toilet smiley when you need it? Quote
crc Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 310,000kms on both engine and tranny and the whole thing still purrrs... Slight hesitation on 2nd but that's about it.. low end still solid. Do the usual maintenance and upkeep and these things will last long long time. The rest of your car will probably fall apart before they do. Quote
Bigfut Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 had mine 2 mos, put 10,000 miles on it for a total of 164,000 . Tranny is showing early signs of dropping 4th, but prev owner didn't do ANY maintenance. Also replacing intake gaskets on my 3100 right now for possible problem( see other post titled Since we're on temps ... kinda) but other than that she's fine. hits over 80 mph often thru the week due to living near nowhere, been a week or two since she was over 100 mph. but still a good car til the temp thing. god910 Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Just rolled 139,000 miles today. I deliver pizzas in it and beat the shit out of it, manually shifting half the time (I like the sound of my CAI in first @ 35 WIDE OPEN) I have an intersting 1/2 throttle 1-2 shift, kinda sounds like the cradle is going to jump right out the front of the car, (w/ a bang of course) Other than that full throttle/ light throttle no problems. I just keep telling myself that the tranny is going out to motivate me to finish my 3800 S2 Turbo. Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 i bought my car @ 111,000 miles, and the 4T60 was in there unitl i did the 5-speed swap at about 165,000 miles. i too deliver pizza like mad and i'm all about 'getting there' ASAP with the auto and now the manual too. the first thing i did after i bought the car was have the trans flushed and filter changed. since then the tranny fluid was brown but it never gave me any problems except a very harsh downshift when i floored it. altho i never had any real problems with my 4T60, i don't miss that thing at all... joshua Quote
