97loudcut
Just stock mufflers with be fine. Tony got stock replacement mufflers for his sisters GTP and the car is quite is fuck.. and it;s a DOHC motor
Dirty Rockstar
Something i have heard from other folks with a 3.1/3100: I have heard of people using the DOHC Mufflers on their 3.1's and it is almost silent exhaust.. (I dont know for sure as I have never done this..) I will say the exhaust on my 94 w/ 3100 is pretty quiet (When the gasket at the flange off the manifolds isn;t cracked).. I can sit in the car with it running in park, and no music, and I cant tell its on.. Now, the growl the 3.1 has I dont think can be quieted down.. 1990lumina
I know what you want, but I dunno if you'd ever get it that quiet...the motor itself is fairly loud (well, mine is anyway)...the 3L vulcan in my sister's Taurus on the other hand is not loud at all..the dying accessories make more noise...I love the exhaust on her car..so quiet lol.. i'm pretty sure stock replacmeent mufflers are not going to be enough for what "I" think you're trying to achieve..dunno if anything would be able to quiet the 3.1 down enough to heard the fuel pump running lol.. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR i hate that!! i'm gonna try some 3.8 mufflers i think...

Dirty Rockstar
My old Lumi had the original muffler on it.. Growled reeeeal nice until about 4500, then it all but disappeared
mra32
When I got the lumina, there must have been a hole in the pipe before the muffler already because it was kinda loud. Then it broke and was extremely loud. I did a quick fix and it was as quiet as I ever heard it. I actually tried to start the car after I had already turned it on. When I got around to fixing it for real, I got a muffler from summit for $40 and it has a real nice growl to it. Moral of the story: Stock is pretty quiet. GutlessSupreme
With a new stock muffler my 3.1 is extremely quiet out the exhaust pipe. The motor is not quite so quiet on the other hand.

joey b
my 3.4 with stock exhaust to my knowledge is completely quite and I can't tell that it is running at idle.
Psych0matt
my 3.4 with stock exhaust to my knowledge is completely quite and I can't tell that it is running at idle. basically the same here. I believe theyre stockers, only thing replaced (to my knowledge) was the cat that used to rattle from 2000-3000 it annoyed me for 3 years til I finally got it replaced
Grand Moff Joseph
My Lumina (3.1) has stock exhaust, and I've had people ask me what model Flowmaster I was running...
Euro
My Lumina (3.1) has stock exhaust, and I've had people ask me what model Flowmaster I was running... yeah all the older 1st gen's were louder than the newer 1st gens. I believe that was because they added a resonator to the 93/94's?
AWeb80
Now, the growl the 3.1 has I dont think can be quieted down.. I love the growl. My exhuast is pretty quiet too.....specially for 12 yr old stock exhuast.
Grand Moff Joseph
My Lumina (3.1) has stock exhaust, and I've had people ask me what model Flowmaster I was running... yeah all the older 1st gen's were louder than the newer 1st gens. I believe that was because they added a resonator to the 93/94's? I think that they did, but I'm not sure. In fact, according to my RPO sheet, my car was originally spec'd for the "Exhaust system - sporty" package, so who knows... Hell, I drove around a 92 Regal the other day that also had a 3.1 in it, and it was as quiet as a mouse! I said to my self, 'damn it, that ain't fair!'
