Marchi1
I looked and didn't see anything on this so here is the scenario: I have the 04 Regal GS, I had an 04 Cavalier which I added the Coablt M62 SC to. I have the OEM Cobalt pulley (3.34" diamter) and for all apperances it looks as if it will press onto the M90 with no issues. I dropped from the 3.34" to a 3.1 and had no issues with running lean etc. I was wondering what the OEM pulley size is? will I be safe to run the 3.34" pulley (I am looking at intake and exhaust upgrades at the same time, with a header, u-tube replacement, and a full exhaust) or will I be running a little lean on this. HP tuners is defineitley in my future so that will help tune some of the enrichement tables, but don't want to get past about 90% duty cycle on the injectors. Did any of that make sense. THe_DeTAiL3R
Sorry I don't have any answers but I do have a question. How expensive was it to put the supercharger on your Cavi? Besides the S/Cer what other parts did you need and did you have to get someone to tune it?
Marchi1
I bought the kit from a buddy at a dealership, installed it my self, a few months later I had it intercooled as well. overall close to 3500, if i hadn't polished mine, which I did, and now I have a spare SC kit for a eco sitting in my basement. But back on topic, PM, please, if you have any more questions.
terryk2003
i believe they WILL FIT...not 100%, but i'm pretty sure they modular pulley systems for the cobalts are teh same as the ones for the 3800's...a 3.3 pulley is gonna take quite a few mods...deffinatly would want @ least intake/3" DP or HEADERS/PCM/180* tstat/colder plugs (probably autolite 104's or possibly 103's)/1.9 rockers or a cam... ...but, i would deffinatly recommend you scan before you do any modding...you're deffinatly gonna wanna do some supporting mods first...i know i have the 3.4 with the mods listed and i'm still seeing 3-4* KR @ times... BTW: stock pulley size is 3.8"
digitaloutsider
The M62 and M90 pulleys are not interchangable as far as I know. Do not even ATTEMPT a pulley swap until you scan, and even then, you're going to need supporting mods. At bare minimum for a 3.4", you need: U-bend deleted Colder range plugs Colder thermostat Downpipe The stock Regal muffler also sucks a fat one, so you might want to either do the SLP GSX dual exhaust (like I did, using GP parts), or move to a better-flowing aftermarket one. Stock pulley size is 3.8". You're going to blow a piston if you attempt that pulley swap. Read up on RegalGS.org before you even THINK about modding, and absolutely GET THE CAR SCANNED FIRST. terryk2003
alright...after a lil research...if you have the GEN V m62 as found on the cobalt, ion, pursuit the pulley will fit your M90, however, if you have the older m62 such as on the gen 1 3800's, your pulley will NOT fit... IMPORTANT NOTES: - Stock pulley size for the L67/L32 engine is 3.80" - Each .10" drop in pulley size equates to about 1 pound of boost. - While this pulley system does fit the Generation 5 M62 found on the Cobalt, Pursuit and ION it DOES NOT fit the M62 supercharger found on other applications such as the Series I 3800 Bonnevilles. Yeah I had the Gen V M62 (actually still do is sitting in the basement) So it will fit on the car, but will give me to much boost without other supporting mods (which I also knew). I am looking at an Intake, headers (which ones are up in the air, but coated), U-tube delete, high flow cat, and a full cat back exhaust (most likely SLP), and a change in plugs for sure. Why does everyone do the thremostat as one of the first mods as well? GET THE CAR SCANNED FIRST. And whats the scanned thing all about? I am looking at HP Tuners so I can do all my modifications from there.
terryk2003
thermostadt is done to keep the engine colder, to help keep the temp in the combustion chamber down in hopes of eliminating KR...same reason for the colder plugs...also, most aftermarket PCM's are tuned for the colder t-stat... Euro
And whats the scanned thing all about? I am looking at HP Tuners so I can do all my modifications from there. even tho im not an L67 owner, i'll try to answer. Scanning is scanning the computer, relayin certain info like Knock Retard. IIRC thats the only reason people scan their cars, but again im not positive since i've never done it. I'm sure terry or someone will give a better description than i did
Marchi1
Sacnning = baselining the computer?
digitaloutsider
Basically, you use a tool like LS1M or AutoTap and see the variables of all the car's sensors during a spirited drive. You're mainly trying to see if you're getting any KR. KR = piston death.
97loudcut
Get the gauge that Terry has (Aeroforce Scan Gauge). I think it's like $250 but it is so sweet, I have seen it in person.
Andrew
Scanning = baselining the computer? Yeah pretty much. You dont want to be throwin some performance parts on your ride if its not in perfect running order to begin with. So if you scan and see some KR, fix it til you see 0. then start modding. its worth the extra effort in the long run.Like the others said, get those supportive mods before you mount that 3.3 pulley. Your engine and wallet will thank you.
