Stevo
Last night one of my return lines to the tranny cooler blew off. The OD said I was doing 35kph but it was more like 10 I drove it for about 200 ft then pulled over. I turned it off and checked underneath, big puddle of transmission fluid. I then started it back up and coasted it down a hil to a parking lot where eventually I got it off the street in a space. This morning I replaced the line and put about 6-7liters of fluid in it but there isnt any shifting going on. Any idea why this is? Could air in the lines be hindering progress? Right now I am home taking a break and will be heading back in about an hour. Hopefully I can get it going again. I hope I didnt blow the tranny. The tranny takes quite a bit of fluid to be full, depending on how much you lost when the line blew you may not have filled it enough. Hope you can get it going again man, doubt the tranny is too hurt...guy at work drives a Lumina with the 440T4 and runs it dry all the time (pan gasket leaks) and he said whenever the car won't move anymore he just adds more fluid lol.... Stevo
I just took a break from it and came home to take some Advil... my head is pounding from lying on my back smelling that tranny fluid. I'm about to head back over and give 'er another go. I think there isnt enough fluid in it ... it says in the book that it takes 8.7 Liters of fluid from a full teardown and I am betting it had completely bled out. There was no response at all through out the shift points so the worst case senario right now is it sits in the parking lot one more night. The guy in the parking booth was awesome... I told him I would pay for 2 days parking since it was in the lot and he said dont worry about it. Man tranny fluid is noxious.

digitaloutsider
Man tranny fluid is noxious. It's not THAT bad. I take it you haven't smelled supercharger oil.
Stevo
heh ... Well I got it going ... took almost 9 Litres of transmission fluid. The thing must have been BONE dry. I sat there with it idling through all the shift points. P R N O D 2 1 and back to P several times adding a little fluid to ensure it reached the right level. Idle @ P and N makes a 'scratchy' sound though. I may add a little additive to smooth it out and then replace the filter. I bought both lines and I should have put them BOTH on. I think it's time to replace all rubber and plastic lines I can get my hands on. This is the second transmission line to go on me. Thanks for the help guys. PCGUY112887
I think you may need to investigate WHY you have blown 2 hoses in a row. Are you at stock pressure?
Stevo
Not sure... The first line went due to the way the system was designed in concert with the amount of rusting that goes on in this area. The second line blew the hose out of the crimped fitting for some reason I can't think of. I do know that I had not driven the car for a couple of days and even after it was warmed up sufficiently I was a little hard on the accelerator... including the situtation MOST probable to the line blowing off. I still have the line and it looks like you could just plug it right back in. On a side note. When I pulled in the parking lot with the truck to go check on the car yesterday morning. I informed the guy in the booth about my car and he waved me through... a brown ferret ran in front of me. I tried to get him to come to me to catch it but he took off. lol... Here I am with a car emergency and I am like 'Hey it's a ferret tee-hee-hee... here ferret ferret'. lol.

Stevo
omfg ... I was talking to my bud in Newfoundland today. He had my dyin' laughing. I said to him 'I'm not sure what I would have done with the ferret after catching it unless I tossed it in the truck cab until I was done'. He said 'Put it in yer pants'. Coffee shot out my nose. Then he said to me that with the pills I am taking did I REALLY see a ferret. Coughing I said 'STOP!!! already'.
97loudcut
Try some of the "LubeGaurd" additive. It worked wonders for my tansmision. I had the same problem when I dropped my pan. The book said like 7 or 8 quarts and it ended up taking like 10. Found that out the hard way after a little test drive.
