Coolant Temp Sensor Q's

OK, here's the deal. I was out riding today. Sunroof open, windows down, and some really cheesy 80's music was blaring out of the Alpine 855.

Absolutely perfect day. Feelin good. THEN.....I notice the Gutlass hesitating. It dies when i try to pull out. Gas smell. I figure it's going dead rich. I check the DIS, and the coolant temp is jumping back and forth between -10 to 154 to 195, and back and forth.

What gives? Is the sensor bad? I know that dropping below the temp should put it in and out of open loop mode, but what's up with it anyway?

I have the same problem with my car before and my coolant temperature sensor connector was somewhat broken/loose and it was barely making contact and disconnect when the car starts moving and then the engine dies.

I have used an epoxy (liquid metal) to the connector and making sure the contacts are away and it fixed the problem. I have to replace the coolant temperature sensor soon when I am ready to do the throttle heater by-pass and cleaning the plenum.
