gmrulz4u
My mechanic and I changed the Fuel Filter, PCV Valve, Spark Plugs, Spark Plug Wires, cleaned the Throttle Body etc., as well I did an Oil change. The car runs somewhat better now. Something that I found strange, via my scanner, was now my ECM hardly uses the IAC valve at all!? Before the tune-up, it was anywhere from 20-30 steps at idle, now, it's between 0 and 5 steps? It's like it doesn't need as much air when idling or something?? I don't know... But here's the bad part, and of course with my luck there's ALWAYS a bad part I pick a friend up from work, had the car shut off for about 10 minutes while waiting, go to start it, and NOTHING!? My car has never done this before, it's failed to start due to a weak battery or something, but it has ALWAYS at least turned-over and cranked. This was an absolute nothing! No sound at all when I turned the key!!?? So, I verify with my scanner that everything looks OK, try and a few more times, nothing, nothing, and then finally VROOOOOOM! What the hell??? I assume it HAS to have something to do with the fact that I had a tune-up done today. I was thinking it was perhaps the Neutral-Start switch or whatever, but I didn't even touch the shifter at all in between tries. Anyone have any ideas? THANKS! SmokesGTP
If you checked the battery connections I would think starter. Mine did that, out of nowhere never even an indication that the starter was weak. I would turn the key and nothing would happen, no noises or anything. If it does it again and won't start give the starter a good whack with a metal object, should do the trick.
stlunatics2oo3
it is the starter solenoid i would change that instead of the whole starter it is only like 15 bucks and if you decide to change it take the oil filter off it is much easier that way.... plus the nothing stage of starting will sooner or later not work at all

Slade901
As somone suggested. The positive battery connector. On my car 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, the positive battery cable from the battery goes close to the Fuel Pump Fuse and it is held by a small nut and it got loose enough for engine to fire up and sometimes not. I've tightened it and it is fine.
