Brian P Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 that's the camshaft/timing gear grinding into the front cover *leaving* I really shouldn't say that, he has a '98. It was the late series-1's with this problem (spring-loaded button that keeps the cam from walking forward into the timing cover would break, and start to drill into it) it makes a horrid whine/grind noise. Brian P Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 definetly suck out the fluid (turkey baster works good) in the resevoir and add fresh fluid. Get the fancy hi mileage stuff or not, whatever. That may help you out. Quote
CNBZ34 Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 Perform the factory bleeding procedure. I'm tellin ya, it helps! I still do it each time I have it up in the air to change the oil and to my surprise, I still see some air bubbles form in the reservoir . Weird...... I'd be careful using certian treatments in the p/s system as the compounds in some of them could cause the seals in the rack to prematurely fail. just my 2 cents..... Quote
chadz34 Posted December 21, 2006 Author Report Posted December 21, 2006 Does the 96 DOHC have the same PS pump as earlier years? I can probably get one cheap. Thanks. Quote
GIANT MOTH Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 My PS pump whines too. The cold really sucks. Once its warmed up it usually is not as bad. Not sure how all the latest years hold up but these older models are crap. And if its true and the latest greatest junk holds up your going to need to drop a new engine. Quote
