Psych0matt
So, I tore the "sport pod" i guess it's called out of the car, and was messing around with some things and trying to come up with something to do. I'd like to relocate the DIS to the ashtray, since that's only really used for pennies, but Im trying to figure out what to do down bottom with the HUD control and such. My thought is to use the spare ashtray cover and make a blank panel, maybe put a switch or something in it later. I'm going to put an ashtray plate in front of the DIS, and I want to make it flip up, not down because of the button placement. Also, I'm going to cut a hole in it, and add a little screen thingy that I pulled from the auroroa piece, so that you can see the readout through the panel, but not all the buttons and such. Here are a few pics I snapped quick. The DIS isnt quite mounted yet, although I rigged something that actually workes very well. I guess my main question is how do I get the door to stay in the up position when Im switching through modes? and yeah, any other suggestions are welcome

Psych0matt
I'll get pics later, but it really isnt of any use. the buttons almost worked, but not quite, and would have been almost impossible to get to work right
Dirty Rockstar
Looks pretty smurf Matt.. As far as getting it to work, the Aurora flip door is just a small spring that when the latch is released via the button, it flies up.. YOu could try making something like that here.. Another option is you can find a parts CD walkman that has a geared spring loaded mechanism (THough I dont know if this would give the door enough travel)
Pabz
I relocated my DIS to the ashtray too, and wanted to do the same thing with the flip out cover. I since changed my mind, after test driving a newer gm vehicle i am thinking of putting the screen portion of the DIS into the ub3 cluster. Not sure where i would put the buttons though. mixe olds
Would you be able to see the display when the flip up door is open? Could you even see the buttons on the DIS when the door is flipped up? If you do do this it would seem to be more functional if you could see the display with the door open or closed. It also might look better if there was a way to have the read out flush with the flip out door. If you were to put clear plastic in the hole of the door so that you could see thru the door. Just don't leave a hole in the door because you can always see the cut marks on the edges. Just something to think about.
Psych0matt
well thats what the little screen is for. Ill put the screen in the hole I cut, which i have to figure out how first, and yes, I should be able to see it both while its open and closed. Hey, Pabz, got any interior pics? I had one on my computer but i couldnt find it last night. I saved it cuz I remember I liked it like a year or two ago

I discussed the same idea for a 95+ CS ACC display screen with slamditt. hide the controls but relocate the screen to the cluster. this has my gears turning. Dirty Rockstar
The issue that comes into play with button relocation is the relocation itself.. THe DIS is actually 2 PCBs sandwhiched together in the little box, and the buttons and screen are attached.. I followed some traces, and one criss crosses to the screen half of the first board, so cutting the buttons off is out of the question..
