badassoldspower
Well for all you who dont know, I am currently enrolled in the GM ASEP program at a local college here, and i feel comfortable with myself now, that i am going to pursue a complete 3100/3400/3500 hybrid motor, If anyone has any suggestions as what setup to use, i would be greatful, i do plan to turbo, as I have acquired a t3 turbo which is larger than a TGP turbo I think, i would like to run 10-12 psi of boost, and im starting with a fresh motor, which i will build, i will keep you all posted as I progress. Thanks all
terryk2003
holy shit!...long time no see on the forums!...good luck on the engine build up!...
slick
Well... what type of motor do you wanna build? IMO, my choice would be a 2.8 crank, 3400 block, 3500 heads and intakes. It would rev quickly and breathe pretty damn well. Obviously there will be a lot of custom parts though.
intern8tion9l
yeah the tgp uses a t25 turbo, so your 10-12psi on a t3 will be better than the same on the smaller turbo. i have a feeling this is going to be a long running thread! good luck with it all and def keep the progress coming. your car will be 100x better when it performs as good as it looks

5speedz34
That's badass! I would take Chris's advice on what he said. I would build it, tune it, then turbo it. Remember on step at a time.

Chris' combonation seems really extensive, I could see it getting really expensive seeing as how he thinks there will be a lot of custom pieces to make it work. It would work well if done though. Because it will add up quick. The stock bottom end should hold up find, but depends on how high he wants to rev it. but Id go with a 3400 block, P&P 3500, P&P 3500 intakes, 75mm TB, lightweight cromoly pushrods, crane cams gold race roller rockers ( 1.6 ratio ) Milzy sells a stage 2 cam for boosted engines. badassoldspower
Well my search for a 3400 begins, my plan is to use 3400 block punched out, like Jay said, use chromeolly pushrods, 1.6 crane cams gold race rockers, stainless valves on 3 angle seat, ls2 springs, heavy grade retainers, p&p 3400 heads since the rockers wont work on the 3500 heads without extensive modification, p&p 3500 intakes, 75 mm billet throttle body, will be using arp bolts eveywhere, i am going to polish the rods to remove imperfections, and lighten up and rebalance the bottom end to acheive quicker revving and less resistance. And i was looking at the 272? cam. My main reason for this build is of course to have fun, but i want to show the world that the 3800 is not the only v6 out there that can run good numbers, afterall my 60 degree v6 wont have splined rod journals unlike those 3.8 things lol jk, but i want to be different. This will take some time, i may even look into the chevy aluminum bowtie 60 degree v6 block, but i will decide soon enough, hold out guys, im gonna make this thing run. badassoldspower
Update: As of today, I have a 3400 out of an 02 Alero that needs only new bearings! One step closer

19Cutlass94
Nice! now is this going to be a boosted engine or N/A? I was going to suggest, depending on the lift of the cam, you might be able to shave the heads +.050 to give you a higher compression ratio, if your using the stockers. 19Cutlass94
If you can, look into the extrude-honed for the intakes. Ive heard that does a much better job than just P&P.
Euro
i think its gonna be boosted IIRC. congrats on finding the motor!
badassoldspower
REPLY: Yes the motor will be boosted using a custom kit built by myself, and a t3 turbo ackuired from a saab, i hope to run 15-20 psi boost!
mfewtrail
Kenny, what year/model did you get the Saab turbocharger from?
