littleredcar
Just out of curiousity, I wondered if anyone online here at W-Body has ever been a part of or done a complete exchange, going from the stock automatic w/ overdrive to a manual 5-6 speed transmission? Now I mean a complete change over, making it appear as though the manual trans came stock in the little car???? Now I know it would be a son of a gun to get'er'done but I've done a number of them in cars that I was told flat couldn't be done. My 57 98 coupe was one of them...a T-10 4 speed went in there with ambulance clutch pedals and linkage the bell housing was from "Honest Charlies speed shop", Anyone remember that mailorder place? Hardest part was drilling the end of the crank while in the car for the pilot bearing. When it was done and after changing the stearing column replacing it with one out of a 63 Grand Prix so that there would be no shift lever and would have a tilt wheel, It really did come out great, EXCEPT the motor had way too much torque and would wipe out a clutch in a month or two of my wife driving it.....she loved to blow the doors off of youngsters in their brand new muscle cars light to light,...lol SO tell me folks has anyone ever done one in a w-body....Tom, AKA. littleredcar***

GOT2B GM
its been done by numerous people, some don't post much here. TurboSedan, Invasion1, TGPilot, skalor, 93GTP, brianteel to name a few.
jeremy
you could always just buy one that came from the factory with a 5spd
Psych0matt
I'd like to eventually do it, but its not a priority. It'd almost be more worth it (to me) to get a built up auto if/when i go turbo, although not nearly as much fun

littleredcar
I have a complete 284 setup to swap into my TGP if and when the 4T60HD shits the bed. ***could I ask you what kind of money did you have to spend to get it all together? and availability of parts, I'm guessing that you have all Pontiac parts is that correct? 91GPSTE
I was wondering the same thing recently since my auto is acting funny. What all that would be involved in the swap? Is it as simple as pulling one tranny out and putting a new one in or is there custom fabrication work involved? I am guessing, the floor would have to be cut to get the shifter in, the clutch pedal would have to be put in, anything else?
GOT2B GM
I bought a 92 5 spd Z34 for $800 CAD and took everything I needed. Between what I needed for my 93 Z34 and my 90 TGP there wasn't too much left on my 92 5spd when I scrapped it.

I don't believe there is any need to do any cutting as all of the cars and their floorboards are the same except for a few punchouts where linkage go's through and such.. As I said my auto is perfect BUT if it ever does take a crap on me I believe that is the way I'll go IF I can find another Cutlass to rob for all the parts...Tom***

Bake82
didnt turbosedan do this or was his a 4dr? His is a 4 door, but they're exactly the same. ***That is for sure the right way to do it...that way you have every nut bolt clip EVERYTHING that will make the swap complete. It would probably be much easier to find a Grand Prix with a 5 speed in it. The only difference would be the shifter is different, but the GP Shifter is better anyways. It's a relatively easy swap from what I can tell.
digitaloutsider
All W-bodies, automatic or manual, console or column shift have precut floorpans.
