steering noises

I remeber reading a thread that described part of the problem with my steering but I cant find it again. The part of the problem that it described was the creaking that I got. especially when parallel parking, since im steering so much. The person said that a spring gets stuck and the turning makes it creak. i"m not sure the details are foggy.

Also there is a popping noise that happens in pretty much the same situation. The popping sounds like its coming from under the drivers foot area.

I ran the car without power steering for a couple days 2 summers ago and i'm not sure but I think the problems came after that. Either that or they just became more pronounced. Either way, the stresses of running without power steering put stress on the parts that are now making the noise.

Does anyone have any idea what parts would need replacement/readjusting to rid myself of these problems?

My car makes that popping noise under the drivers foot area, and a shop told me my steering rack makes the noise but it will not fail anytime soon. So far I haven't had any problems with it, and I've been driving my car over 2 years

I've been getting the steering creak for a while now. Happens when parallel parking or backing out of a parking space and (I dont know if its just me or if its actually happenning but i think) more so when backing downhill with the wheel turned. I dont think its the strut bearing because I just replaced most of my suspension. I've been thinking possibly steering rack but if it is its like notsoslimshady76's because its been going on a while with no real problems.

I had the same thing. my problem was the rubber bushings were gone in one of the front frame mounts. if I was pulling into my driveway (which was a sharp turn)or any slow sharp turns for that matter.. I would hear odd creeking
