gimp19
Today I pulled into my parking lot and heard a loud clunking noise. Right after I heard the noise I got out of my car and inspected to see if I had a flat tire. My tires were not flat so I decided to drive it around the parking lot to see if anything was wrong with the car. I knew right away somthing was wrong so I parked it and inspected it alittle closer, the first thing I noticed was my front drivers side tire was smoking. Then I noticed the whole spring had fell down and was pushing on my tire and causing it to smoke. I hope its nothing too hard/expensive to fix. Brian P
get a better look at the strut assembly, like just double check the joints and if the spring plate broke....you live in a high salt area?
gimp19
Are "spring plates" and "spring seats" the same thing? Are they part of the strut?
Guest Anonymous
They're the same and they are about halfway down the strut assembly for the spring the set on.
gimp19
Yup, My spring mount rusted out and its being a @#$%^ to fix :?
gimp19
I got the whole spring/strut assembly out, but I'm gonna have to take it to a garage to have the spring mount/plate replaced cause I dont have the tools to compress a spring. Yesterday I hit a 350 on a pole and put a dent and gash in the hood of my car . Then I get gome and my strut plate breaks. So now I have alot of body and suspension work to do. Brian P
Maybe you could grab a whole strut assembly (or a pair) from a junkyard. I know of a few places if Utica or Rome is close to you. There's one in Auburn too
gimp19
I would have gone to a junkyard today but they were all closed. There is about three in my area and they have quite a few cutlass's, prix's, and regals, but I'm kinda in a squeeze for time and need to get it finished asap. I hate it when my car has expensive problems, and yesterday I was so pissed about the dent and the spring mount that I was actually thinking about selling it. Even though I have enough money saved to buy a much nicer car flat out, I'd either want a 94-96 Caprice or 88-90 International Series. I know I would regret the decision right after it was sold, cause I have a very wierd relationship with my car. Soon the dent and strut assembly will be fixed and I'll forget any of this even happened.
