Q-Ball
UPDATE: I finally got my car back. Brakes feel so much better, but I still need to bring it in for an alignment. Were susposed to get a massive snow storm over the next few days, so I plan to get my car prepped and as much done as possible! But first, I need gas and a car wash! Well I've kept somewhat quiet about my car and its problems for a week or so. Well last week I was on the midnight shift and my Mom thought it would be a nice idea and have some parts installed so I could get my alignment done. I needed some balljoints, inner tie rods and the strut bearing plate replaced. Well long story short. The guy was trying to compress the spring with a jack and had the car under a jack with wood. Somehow the one jack slipped and the wood fell out from under tipping the other jack. Needless to say my car only had the RH front wheel off. So now my car took a nice hit on the ground with out my tire on. My mom comes home saying my brakes are spongy. I just thought so cause she is used to here 03 montana. I get to goto work the next day and I find out almost backing up into my neighbour van that I have no break pressure. I also noticed I hear a slight grinding just while driving. Also when I make a hard right turn I hear a major grind. The work was only done to the RH side. Also the damage was only done to the RH side. I took off my wheel the other day and I pulled off the rotor to see what was going on. The back of the rotor now has this ring grinding into it. I was tempted to drive my car in the river saying my brakes went out for insurrance. But the value of my car cant be that high so that plan was ruined. Any idea's what can be causing this all this? My friend from work is a mechanic for 15 years and is going to look/try to fix it next weekend. Oh also, to mention is I bled the brakes. There was a bit of air in the RH front. So the brakes were a bit better but slowly went to shit again. Now I'm also leaking brake fluid. The recents joys of my car. And I just got my Cutty Vert STB in as well my Addco rear sway bar. I guess this could be in General for my cries, but for work could be moved to Brakes/Suspension/Steering/Wheels/Tires.
CSI_MuNkY
If I were you... I would threaten to hurt the next person that takes your car to that guy... all he has done is fuck up your car more than it already is... and I have the strut here to show for it... (for those that don't know, this same "mechanic" did his strut job, in order to get the nut off the top he heated it up... with a cutting torch... got it nice and cherry red then blasted it with the oxy... needless to sat the net and the shaft are one solid unit now) Heres what you do Jason... and its not going to be cheap... Electical problems: I know your having them although not mentioned here, take it to TC auto, while they are at it they can finish installing your keyless and remote starter All other problems, take it to Bob Williams and talk to Dave there, tell him I sent you... DON'T deal with Mark or Kevin!!! Its not going to be cheap, but they will get you done in 1/1millionth of the time that arse you were taking it to would. While you are there, apply for one of the credit thingys... it will buy you 6 months to pay for all this damage... then I say give the bill to that half assed mechanic of your moms.... Call me when you get home from work tomorrow... I want to come over and see this... Jamie
CSI_MuNkY
BTW... I'll bet you have a warped rotor now by the sounds of that free fall your car did Jamie
THe_DeTAiL3R
I would think the rotor would crack before warping... maybe the caliper is fucked or something would be my guess. Anyways that sucks Jason. You should just take your car to McGregors junkyard.. they do GOOD work and they are cheap $60/hr. I had them do work on my car in the past, and my dad gets stuff done on the van and they've never fucked anything up, and always good prices. Good people to deal with. digitaloutsider
I'd take that $60 and buy a shop manual. Sounds like you know nothing but incompetant mechanics.

London to St Thomas with no brakes! lol I don't think Jason should be paying for the stupidity of this mechanic... if the mechanic isn't man enough to admit he fucked up and help pay to fix it then maybe the person that took the car to him should be paying for it (your mom) Jamie

White93z34
so it landed on the rotor is what i'm getting? i'd bet there is a chance it messed up the hub, and may have bent the calliper bracketor mabie flat spoted the rotor. 3000lbs is a lot for a rotor to take. and out of currosity what in the blue hell was he trying to do with compressing the spring in the car. thats the sorta thing you take OUT of the car to service

No brakes I'd take that $60 and buy a shop manual. Sounds like you know nothing but incompetant mechanics. I have the 3 set book for my car now. Plus the shitty Haynes. She took it to him out of the kindness of her heart so I could get my aligment done. Rob (the guy that did all this) wanted me to come back this weekend to finish it... I was happy I was already working overtime this week. Jason how are you getting to work?? Luckily there is a guy that lives 2 blocks from me that works in the same dept and on the same shift. Also another guy can come 20 min out of his way to pick me up. I just have to buy him lunch. Jason how are you getting to work?? 19Cutlass94
Man if you were closer Id fix your car for you! But they do make things called spring compressors. I guess that tech had never heard of one. But yeah Im willing to bet something is bent in the front end area there. You just have to figure out what. And with this youll prolly need that RF brake line to be replaces because that prolly got damaged as well.

5speedz34
Here's what I would do find a shop with "certified" mechanics. I don't know if they have ASE certs. in Canada. Then go back to the shop and complain to the manager about what happen and have them fix it.
1990lumina
We have ASE mechanics in Saskatchewan, so i'm sure they're nation-wide as well..
Q-Ball
Well my car has been off the road for over a month. It's at my friends house slowly getting fixed. We dont have much time to work on it since we usually work 6 or even 7 days a week. But were still working on getting everything done for the alingment. I had the passenger side done by another back yard mechanic who basically did more bad than good. All that is left what he told me is the brake lines and im back in business! I'm really hoping we can get it back together by this weekend. Even then I still need to get my rear sway bar on and a new door lock motor. And after all that back to the door wiring... ahhh the car seems like it will never be done.
ns87
Don't give up hope yet. Once your cars done.....oh man just wait. Its hard to keep up motivation with a W, but deffinately keep waiting!
Q-Ball
Well were susposed to do a good days work tomorrow from morning till night. I'm also tempting to do the front and rear brake upgrades.
rockfangd
NOBODY ever touches my car ever. I do all my own work and if i havent done it yet i learn. 2 years ago i had both of my front hubs done by a half assed so called licensed mechanic who ised a 300 lb torque gun to continously torque my shaft nuts down. MY bearings wore out prematurely and broke the white metal from being overtightened and the whole hub broke, when i finally got the nut off which he cross threaded on he driver side (which took a 350 lb torque) everything fell apart, the ball bearings were still like new but the white metal broke. So after wasting like 300 dollars on him again i learned a little and did the whole job myself. I had to replace both front hubs again, one cv shaft nut, and all of the hub bolts because they were also way overtightened. NEver EVER again . oh i forgot to mention that when i was driving the car and it broke the major wobble fucked up my 2 month old brake job. i had to take the car off the road for a few months just to be able to afford to fix it all. I learned my lesson let me tell you [attachment deleted by admin] Removed to free up storage space.
