The Burning Rom Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 I will be dropping the TGP's tranny (4T60) in the Fall and rebuilding it. I have a kit all lined up. But what I was wondering is are there any specialized tools needed to take it apart and put it back together? I've got a ton of tools in my garage, but ya never know. There might be something I'm missing. Quote
Baddflash Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 Not that I know of, If you got a lot of tools I'm sure you can make do. Why not drop in a 5-SPD?? Quote
JS91Z34 Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 internal/external snap ring pliers is a must!!!! compressed air and clean tranny fluid. I'm guessing your doing this yourself? Quote
The Burning Rom Posted May 31, 2003 Author Report Posted May 31, 2003 internal/external snap ring pliers is a must!!!! compressed air and clean tranny fluid. I'm guessing your doing this yourself? Yup..I plan to. I've got both internal and external snap ring pliers. And all the air tools I'll probably need. And on the 5spd issue, I plan on leaving the TGP an automatic because I do not feel like searching for the elusive HM-282 transmission. I had a 284 that I was going to purchase, but for reasons unknown to me, they stripped the car down right after I bought it, so I got my money back. Also a 5spd swap would take longer, and I really want to get the TGP back on the road (and to the track ) But if the auto can't hold up to the power of the rebuilt engine, then I will be forced to go 5spd Quote
Robby1870 Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 dont you need a special tool to pop the axles out? or am I just imaging that? Robby Quote
Baddflash Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 There is a tool that will make that much easier but you can do it without. Most part stores will lend you one if you need. Quote
