Tranny Tools?

Recommended Posts

I will be dropping the TGP's tranny (4T60) in the Fall and rebuilding it. I have a kit all lined up. But what I was wondering is are there any specialized tools needed to take it apart and put it back together? I've got a ton of tools in my garage, but ya never know. There might be something I'm missing.

Not that I know of, If you got a lot of tools I'm sure you can make do. Why not drop in a 5-SPD??

internal/external snap ring pliers is a must!!!! compressed air and clean tranny fluid. I'm guessing your doing this yourself? :) :)

Yup..I plan to. I've got both internal and external snap ring pliers. :) And all the air tools I'll probably need.

And on the 5spd issue, I plan on leaving the TGP an automatic because I do not feel like searching for the elusive HM-282 transmission. I had a 284 that I was going to purchase, but for reasons unknown to me, they stripped the car down right after I bought it, so I got my money back. Also a 5spd swap would take longer, and I really want to get the TGP back on the road (and to the track :) ) But if the auto can't hold up to the power of the rebuilt engine, then I will be forced to go 5spd :(

There is a tool that will make that much easier but you can do it without. Most part stores will lend you one if you need.
