FordBoy Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Alright i changed my lower intake gasket yesterday. When we got that done we started to let the bad oil into the oil pan and changed the oil. The car is stalling now and the "service engine soon" light is on. It only dies at low speeds when i get into the gas a little if i tromp on it it gets enough to stay going. But if i hit it a little at a time it dies. What the fuck is going on. BTW the vaccum line closest to the firewall of the 4 on top broke i think that is what is causeing it but im not sure. Any seggestions? Please and thanks!! Quote
Psych0matt Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 find out what code it is showing. to do that you can put a paper clip in the top right two holes in the plug under the dash while the key is on but not started, and it should flash how many 10's, and then how many 1's. so three long ones and then two short ones would be 32. FordBoy Posted November 27, 2006 Author Report Posted November 27, 2006 What plug under the dash?? Quote
Regal_GS_1989 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Im not 100% sure, but i think that one goes to the MAP sensor. I forgot to hook that one up when I worked on my Regal, and it did the exact same thing. Quote
Regal_GS_1989 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 I know you cant see the plug in the pic, but its right around where I drew the white box. You might have to look underneith the dash to find it, but its the only plug thats there. Quote
Pontiac6KSTEAWD Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 He migth be lucky enuf that the ALDL connecter has the cover on it. If it does it should have some writing on it, forgot what it says thou. Quote
Regal_GS_1989 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 it says "Diagnostic Connector" I still have the cover on mine Quote
turby Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 I have a suggestion. If you know a vacuum line is broken why not fix it before asking what's wrong with your car? Remember, just a suggestion. Quote
Robby1870 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Yeah, fix the vacuum line, then see what's going on. Quote
FordBoy Posted November 27, 2006 Author Report Posted November 27, 2006 I was told that the line went to the AC so it wasnt needed. Would that one cause that problem or not? Quote
Robby1870 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 I was told that the line went to the AC so it wasnt needed. Would that one cause that problem or not? If that is MAP vacuum line it will cause major problems, like your described. If it's another sensor, you'd see normal problems of a vacuum leak. Get that fixed first, regardless of what it goes to, then report back. Quote
Psych0matt Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 I was told that the line went to the AC so it wasnt needed. Would that one cause that problem or not? if its open and not plugged, it would/could. i know i had a massive leak to my pcv and it was doing all sorts of crazy stuff, but i just plugged it off and its fine, now. I still need to fix it right, but for the time being it runs normal Quote

FordBoy Posted November 28, 2006 Author Report Posted November 28, 2006 Ya i figured out the code thing last night. The code showiing is 15. I think it is the temp sensor thats bad. The vaccum thats broke goes to the EGR(wont cause the problem im having). The temp sensor is the choke to i think. Which would explain why it is dieing. Its starving itself of gas. Quote
FordBoy Posted November 29, 2006 Author Report Posted November 29, 2006 Where is the coolent temp sensor located? I fixed the vaccum and it still does it. Is it near the distributor "dummy shaft"? Quote
Robby1870 Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Where is the coolent temp sensor located? I fixed the vaccum and it still does it. Is it near the distributor "dummy shaft"? I assume you mean the one that the computer uses for the fans and what not? That one is located on the lower intake manifold just below the back of the thermostat. There is a coolant fitting just below it. Quote
FordBoy Posted November 29, 2006 Author Report Posted November 29, 2006 Ya thats the one/ Its stalling caus ethe sensor is tellinig the computer the motor is hot changeing the timming (i think). So near the "dummy shaft" then? Quote

FordBoy Posted November 29, 2006 Author Report Posted November 29, 2006 I think we bent the prongs on that one when we were trying to pry the dummy out. The screw driver slipped. Thought i had them bent back to make it ok but guess not. Thanks for ALL of your help. One more QT it is still safe to drive. Right? (other then resarting it when its cold) Quote
joey b Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 normally when the temp sensors go bad they tell the computer that the coolant temp is -40* F and the engine will get loaded with gas and will not start at all. Quote

I dont know but it starts fine. Exept this morning (dead battery). Once it starts and warms up it runs just fine (other then the engine light) Quote

When mine went bad (actually, the sensor housing disintegrated), it was telling the ECM the lowest reading, but it would start and run decent. However, my torque converter clutch would randomly engage/disengage, since it is supposed to only lockup if the engine is ~120*F+. Also, my fans would never come on. Quote
Robby1870 Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 My fans wont shut off. Ah, so yours failed the other direction, then. Quote
FordBoy Posted November 30, 2006 Author Report Posted November 30, 2006 Ya but i think its is still the same thing to change just broke a different way. Quote
