stlunatics2oo3 Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 okay i was at my local junk yard today when i found a clean quad 4 engine and it is the one that produces 180 hp. and i was wonderin how much work would it be to put it in my car that has right now a 2.8 engine and i was wonderin what i would need from the donar car thank you ahead thanks jeremy Quote
luminator94 Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Keep your 2.8L! I've owned that HO Quad 4, and the reliability of that engine is worse then the 3.4DOHC. If you like to spend extra time changing head gaskets, and blowing all your money on Ignition Modules and coil packs, then the HO Quad 4 would be a great engine! Aaron Quote

chronic139 Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Is it in the junkyard because the engine is cooked or cause the car is smashed? Quote
JS91Z34 Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 HO Quad 4 advantages; good power, tune up friendly, serves well for a boat anchor. HO Quad 4 disadvantages; Very high maintenance, expensive parts, very unreliable, I'd buy one to put in my Ex's car. Quote
PJB Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 Why not swap in a 3.1? It seems pointless to go from a V6 to a 4 banger. Heads always crack on Quad 4's too. Quote
stlunatics2oo3 Posted May 31, 2003 Author Report Posted May 31, 2003 well i will just keep my trusty 2.8 then but thanks for the responses and your honesty thank you jeremy Quote
Baddflash Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 Avoid the Quad4, the 2.8L is way better engine. It would be a lot of work to move down the scale, IMO Quote
stlunatics2oo3 Posted June 1, 2003 Author Report Posted June 1, 2003 my 2.8 has like 158,xxx miles on it but runs like a champ i think if i do decide to drop any motor in it it would be a 3100 ou tof a like a 98 lumina or so cause my moms lumina is pretty fast plus it is easy to get at some things thanks jeremy Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Keep doing regular maint. on your 2.8 and you'll get another 100,000 out of it. Quote
Baddflash Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 I had 340,000kms on mine when I sold the car for $800 and it still ran great. It had a bit of blow-by but never smoked out the back. 2.8L MPFI are great engines if you treat'em right. You using 10w30? if not switch 2.8L known for weak oil pumps. Quote
stlunatics2oo3 Posted June 2, 2003 Author Report Posted June 2, 2003 yes i am using 10w30 umm i believe valvoline peak performance oil and i am using valvoline tranny fluid and cheap brake fluid and power steering fluid and i am using green coolant in my car but she never really has had a problem other then regular maintance stuff but thank you all for your input Quote
