Crazy K
there are a few threads I read but this is something I'm unsettled on... here goes. I'm doing the intake on my 95, and it has the grooves for the newer 96+ 3100 rockers. But I need it together in 6 hours to drive tomorrow, or it sits till january. or it may sit anyhow. Assuming i reinstall everything, can i upgrade to roller rockers by removing the valve covers and not the intake and all? as i understand.... the pushrods are the same if i were to install a 3400 top end (which i don't care to do) I would have to notch out the 3400 intake. Does this apply to the 3100? (were factory 96+'s factory notched? if 96+ roller rockers can be installed without removing the valve covers i'll grab some a a j/y. AND I would have to notch it tonight if notching is required before reinstallation of the intake. p.s. sorry for misposting.
94CutlassSLCoupe
here's a pic of my early 1994 (car has a 10/93 build date) with the LIM removed I would say you could probably upgrade without removing the LIM, but it may be difficult...and to be honest, just the rocker arm upgrade wouldn't be worth much if anything, so I wouldn't bother. I hope you're using a Felpro Perma-Dry Plus gasket!!!!!!!! I'd just leave it be, my 3100 runs like a freaking champ with the original stuff. 19Cutlass94
If your going to put ANY type of rocker on, you need to put the Crane Cams Gold roller race 1:6 roller rocker. Its a roller tip/fulcrum rocker.
GP1138
I used GM gaskets, and haven't had any problems so far.

Crazy K
Felpro Perma-Dry Plus gasket? I got the fel-pro one AZ sells for about $50 ms 90562 is this an inferior design?
94CutlassSLCoupe
The permadry plus was about $75 when i got it...you can see it on my engine in the first pic and here's the set Pretty much, its metal/rubber construction and squishes down A LOT when you tighten the bolts. Unlike the GM or the Felpro cheap gasket, i can see NO WAY this thing will rot and push out the sides, causing the leak and the milky oil. It also has the metal stops on the boltholes to keep from overtightening.
Crazy K
thanks! (grumble) going to AZ now to get the better gasket.
Brian P
I would just be sure the slots are in fact the correct ones for the roller rocker pedestal. GM puts a shallow slot on the surface anyway, but it wouldn't be any good to mount the roller rockers unless you "deepened" them.
