Minor brake upgrade/repainted calipers! (pics)

Well, I did a pretty shitty job painting my calipers the last time, and since I needed to do a brake job anyway (the last owner put on ceramics and I just can't take them anymore), I painted them again.

I'll take some better pictures tomorrow since you can't see it that well. The rotors are spraypainted on the hat and the edge to prevent rusting (which looks awful). Overspray is fine since it gets sloughed off by the brake pad anyway. I also painted the caliper bracket this time. Looks a billion times better.

I'm using EBC GreenStuff pads now, and I've got to say.. these things really improved my stopping power. The ceramic pads were TERRIBLE. Low dust, good wear, but holy shit if you take one good hard stop they're done for.

I'm very happy with the GreenStuff's so far. w00t!

Looks good!!! Been thinking about doing that myself... probably wait till spring now, or when/if I get new rims

Maybe thats whats wrong with mine... I've taken quite a few hard stops now they are squealing...

Greenstuffs are great pads, but they create a shitload of dust...

According to the website they are supposed to create a lot LESS dust, except when they are being broken in and in the event that you have really worn rotors.

I think EBC pads will be my pad of choice next brake job, only I am thinking about using the Red Stuff pads, they are apparently made for heavier, faster cars or heavier braking.

I had them on my 96 Lumina (with brand-new Raybestos PG Plus rotors - fully "bedded") and they did produce a shitload of dust. More dust than any other set of pads I've ever used, including semi-metallic pads. I fell for the "less dust" description that TireRack had on their site, too. Don't get me wrong, they do greatly improve the stopping distances, but just remember there is a tradeoff for that extra "power" ...

I've yet to experience GreenStuff, but personally is the stopping power that much better?

I put semi-metallics on my truck and I hate them, they barely grip to the rotor when cold and they produce a shit load of dust. I put Napa's premium ceramics on my sisters car and that thing still stops like shit.

Funny story, my buddy painted his rotor like that over the summer and then went to get it to turn and the guy threw a shit fit about how he couldn't turn the rotors and next time to put "oil" on it. My buddy replied with what weight?

Thanks, guys. These pads bite excellent. Barely touching the brake pedal now is like over half way before. I'm extremely impressed in that big of a difference over just a pad change.

They weren't too expensive. $62 at Pep Boys.
