GnatGoSplat
Delco PF52 or Purolator, as long as it's blue....As for the Supertech, I bought one once and my engine started to tick lightly at cold startup, just like it would with Fran so I said screw it That's weird. The black Delco Ultraguard Gold filters are Champion Labs, virtually identical to the SuperTech. The blue Duraguard ones are a genuine Delco design, but Delco markets the Ultraguard Golds as a superior product.
GnatGoSplat
My dad's 2000 Chevy Silverado has the 4.8L V-8 that uses....take a guess here....a PF-47!! I was pretty suprised by that. If your dad's 4.8L has a PF47, he's got the wrong filter on it! It's supposed to take a PF59! Anyway, I use the SuperTech oil filters at Wal-mart. They work great! I'd use AC Delco, but Walmart quit carrying them. Fram is the worst filter you can buy, and funny thing is they charge more for them than any other brand. Honestly, I didn't think he was running the right oil filter either! Shawn, he showed me in his owner's manual even! For the 4.8L V-8 its a PF-47. Honest to god! Aaron I think you both got confused. The 2000 Silverado Owner's Manual is available in PDF here: http://www.mygmlink.com/pdf/go2content/manual/US/en/chevrolet/2000silverado.pdf It does show a PF47, but for the 4.3L V6. All the V8's are supposed to use the PF59.
CPSMonteZ34
That's probably most accurate. My brother's 4.3L V6 takes the PF47. I can't see a V8 using one so compararly tiny.
godofthunder
redfox, do all grease monkeys use the same thing? Them and my dad are the only ones who touch my car (other than me). We know the owner. I was just currious though, wondering if all used purlators. Also, maybe you could answer another question. They are the ones who pointed out i need a tranny clean. I was wondering if the flush it, or just drop the pan, put a new filter, and reload jon

I did an oil change with supertech 10w30 and a supertech filter and the oil pressure was a little lower at idle, and I had the ticking. I assumed the drainback valve didn't seal. Never had a problem with the blue PF52 or Purolator blue, and for $2.49 at pep boys, I may as well stick with it
GPRACER
every third oil change I use a fram DG3980 Why? Why not. Seems to be a good formula for high mileage for me, I have an S-10 with 300k and a Caprice with 450k(taxi). The DG filter adds a bit of teflon to the engine on the first start up after an oil/filter change. I'm not a big fan of additives but it has not hurt me anyways. It's probaby just the frequent and religious maintenance that I do.
ismellrealbad
but at least explain where he came up with the formula of every 3rd change. and brian, why do u have a pic of a 3100 when u have a 3.1 car? :read:
GPRACER
every third oil change because of cost, the delco filter is 3 bucks, and the Double Guard Fram is 13 bucks, Canadian of course. Gotta save some money for all the bloody brake and suspension problems.
Brian P
DuPont doesn't recommend Teflon suspended in oil on internal combustion engines....I'll find my sources. As for the pic, lets just say it's a sign of things to come soon
GPRACER
Yeah, I know the reccomendations, some habits are just so hard to break. And those damn infomercials, how do they run those cars with no oil anyways?
Brian P
heheh, I think I saw a site which tried running an engine with no oil after the treatment, and it failed....quick!

PJB
engine(running) - oil = not an engine much longer I found that out with a lawnmower we had- bang- no more lawnmower.
Guest Anonymous
My lawn mower is about 12 yrs. old. The oil hadn't been checked for the last 4 years. It was empty. When I put oil in it, it runs like crap and burns it all out. So I just leave it empty.
