Ok, now that I have ya'll looking thinking its a w-body its not. (sorry guys) but when it comes to mechanical know-how this is the forum to go to. '88 cougar 5.0 car stumbles when driving at a low rpm and there is this horrible racket. I stick my head under the car while guy from work starts it, the sound is coming from the exhaust and the cats are shaking really bad so I'm thinking clogged converter(s) Any suggestions?

Thanks, Robby! The car has 3 cats on it(why) but the middle one was the offending one. So me and a bud hack it off and replace it with a pipe. The noise is gone and she revs up a little quicker now. The whole inside of the converter was loose. BTW I think I have 3rd degree burns now YaY!

3 cats? wtf?? I know there was a resonator in line after the cat before I got my custom exhaust. I only had one cat, and now its gone along with that resonator. I would suggest cuttin all the cats out and going with a turbo tube or glass pack, little more performance and better sound

My cousin was doing a clutch on an SHO and it had 3 cats. At least they all looked like cats.

If it was up to me then there would be true dual exhaust on the car with only mufflers and tips. But the car isn't mine. It's my mom's but she dont drive it after we fixed her Olds. I do race it at the local track and I was thinking about getting an exhaust cut-out that way she will never know!

There was each a cat coming off the down pipes on the manifold but they were small maybe their just resonators but the one we cut off was big and when I shook it you could hear the insides rattling around.
