Z34-5speed
Alright. I have a friend at school that has a 97 GTP. He is stupid and wants to put straight pipes on it. He thinks it will sound like a v8 with straight pipes. I am trying to convince him to get either borla or magnaflow, or something similar. Does any1 have a video or soundclip of an l67 with aftermarket mufflers on it. The videos can't be on streetfire or youtube, they are blocked here at school, so if you could do one of those "right click and save" ones that would be great. Thanks alot. slick
L67's with aftermarket exhaust sound like ass. Tell hims he's retarded for thinking his car will sound good with aftermarket exhaust, then point him towards the fact that there are 400 hp GTP's running stock exhaust. Z34-5speed
He wont undestand that. He wants his car to sound good, and he thinks it will sound like a 350 with straight pipes. I can't stop him from getting an aftermarket muffler but maybe i can convince him to get borla or magnaflow. Any vids??? Kyle
pwmin
on my riviera, the first time i had it, i had a 3" mands downpipe w/ mf cat with a huge magnaflow (mf) resonator, 2.5" crush bent piping and three different setups: the first was no other muffler, just pipes, the second was another 2.5" mf at the back, and the third was stock mufflers (albeit the stock gp muffler are MUCH better than the riv mufflers). i dyno'd all three in the same day and the best setup was with the res and mf muffler. the next time i had it, i did a 3" mands dp, 2.5" mandrel to the muffler im selling exiting out in front of the rear wheel. neither system sounded bad at all (no raspiness). i came to the conclusion that my car was a freak, because most L67's are raspy and dont sound very good with exhaust. there is no way its going to sound like a V8. there's a guy in the local GP club that has gone through at least 6 different mufflers on his L67 before it didnt sound bad. i forget which muffs he settled on, though. he doenst need anything more than stock mufflers right now but even if he frees up the rest of the exhaust, its not going to be loud at all unless he sticks some special edition (etc.) tips on there
slick
GTP with Magnaflow http://www.youtube.com/p.swf?video_id=DGocIpe2ZBI&eurl=&iurl=http%3A//sjl-static5.sjl.youtube.com/vi/DGocIpe2ZBI/2.jpg&t=OEgsToPDskLhQDoFUhiBhTVYPJo8xeE7 GTP with Dynomax resonator and Borla mufflers http://www.intense-racing.com/video/honeychurch_s2_1.wmv GTP with Magnaflows(this is how is sounds in real life, like total ass) http://tektronic.org/downloads/vids/Jon_GTP.wmv For reference, a 350 with glasspacks http://chevy.carvideospace.com/video/C5B9F5A9-3D92-40BC-9CC4-22C72894CD05.htm
terryk2003
if he wants it to be louder, tell him to keep the stock cat-back and swap to headers or even just a 3" DP will make the exhaust louder...
runt
if he wants it to be louder, tell him to keep the stock cat-back and swap to headers or even just a 3" DP will make the exhaust louder... Yeah, even my 2.5" DP made my GT louder. I know once someone has stuff like that in their head it's hard to tell them no, but really it WILL sound like total shit on there. There is a GTP here local that has some type of exhaust work done and it sounds like poop IMO because its' just plain loud, not deep. Miko K
I just finished my GTP's exhaust-SLP's and 3" all the way back, summit 3" resonator, couple of Magnaflow XL-3 3" mufflers and it was unbelievably loud. Drone from 1300 to 2300RPM was unreal. Yesterday I made couple of 2 1/4" restrictor pipes that slide inside of the mufflers and now it sounds perfect. I mean perfect- a little bit of growl at idle and nice and purring at any engine speed, pretty sweet and on the loud side when I step on it. So don't waste your money on 3" chambered mufflers, citations coming your way and lots of headache medicine I will post pics tommorow. ismellrealbad
i fucking hate how my car sounds. i would have left the stock exh on but i was getting horrible kr and i was suspecting stock exhaust to be a culprit. it wasnt n now im left wishing i never did it. stock dp into 3" (i know its retarded but thats how they wanted to do it for whatever reason), carsound h/f cat, mf resonator, 2.5"y pipe into magnaflows (forget what kind). hate it. i also have a cutout before the cat but its about as loud as open headers. thinking of putting it befoe the y pipe and running like that. im positive anything would sound better
Miko K
Here it is: I am using 2 1/4" restrictors welded into the muffler tips, which I slide out if I bring the car to a track and put them back in for a nice and tuned sound the rest of the time.
