97loudcut Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 I didn't know what section to put this in, so mods can move if they want to. My brake lights work fine, but for some odd reason, when I apply the brake and turn on my left blinker the right brake light turns off? Quote
Crazy K Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 sounds like an internal problem of the switch. the contact that is supposed to keep power going to the right is loosing contact. make sure the light is on otherwise, and inspect the bulbs and wiring. in the trunk. Quote
97loudcut Posted November 15, 2006 Author Report Posted November 15, 2006 Yeah, it hasn't really started to bother me until now. This has been going on for awhile. Quote
DiscoStudd Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Wiggle the signal lever around and see if it'll go back to normal. If it does, your signal switch is shot. Remember: http://tss.likeabigdog.com Quote
Brian P Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 yarr, I agree, signal switch. The light should come on if you pull the stalk towards you as if you were turning on the hi-beams. General is fine. Quote
FordBoy Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 I had the same pro a few months ago its the turn signal switch. Quote
runt Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Had this same type of issue with my Cutty (back in the day) and all I did was clean the contacts on the rear bulbs and everything cleared up. Then again, I kept blowing fuses so this was probably a totally different problem. Quote
LumiDriver Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Man, I still have to do my TSS, 52bucks for the part here...good luck with fixing the problem! Quote
97CuttySupSL Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 i got the same problem..i jus dont want to take off the steeering wheel and do all that shit Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 You dont need to take off the steering wheel for the turn signal switch.... Quote
1990lumina Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 You dont need to take off the steering wheel for the turn signal switch.... i had to...the newer columns must be differnet Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 You dont need to take off the steering wheel for the turn signal switch.... i had to...the newer columns must be differnet Well my dad bought a new one a while back, and it didnt take him very long at all to replace it. He didnt have to take the steering wheel off either. Because I know if he had to, he would have just took it to a dealer because of the airbag. Quote

Um, you sure the hell do need to remove the steering wheel. The switch is buried under a bunch of shit, not to mention it completely "encapsulates" the steering shaft. You couldn't even get it out if you cut the column cover apart. Read http://tss.likeabigdog.com for illustrations. I'm guessing your dad has a 2G, as you can remove the switch on those without removing the wheel... Quote
sclary18 Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 GREAT NEWS! mine does that too, and guess what.. i gotta 92 so once again... that website doesnt help me! Hell Yeah!! Quote
DiscoStudd Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 GREAT NEWS! mine does that too, and guess what.. i gotta 92 so once again... that website doesnt help me! Hell Yeah!! Pick up a Hayne's manual, then! Yours is a hell of a lot easier to repair. If the contacts on your switch aren't too worn, then all you need to do is disassemble the switch and bend the terminals down. You don't even need to remove the switch from the column... Quote
sclary18 Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 they make a haynes manual for 92 cuttys? i havent seen any over here! well damn, now i feel like an IDIOT Quote
Crazy K Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 yes, you simply omit the steps with the airbad and the compressor required to yank the lockplate lock ring off, and the rest is virtually identical. Quote
FordBoy Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 When i replaced mine i had 1 of the 4 contacts left on it. Witch explains why my brake lights didnt work for shit. Quote
