Well, when I got the car, I had an idle issue. The egr was turned on and would make the car stall. Of course, there were other problems as well but I had fixed all those. So after some thinking and a little cleaning, I found the problem. It was the bleed filter. It sits to the left on the egr. My idle problem is fixed.

I thought of it when I was on http://www.rockauto.com and I was looking for egr parts. I figured it was worth a try.

Can anybody tell me what the heck a bleed filter is and why it fixed my problem?

since your egr is vacuum-actuated, when the EGR is to be closed, it has to open up and allow atmosperic pressure back in. Air gets pulled in thru that filter.

Do all cars have that? I don't see it in my underhood diagram but would certainly like to check it periodically when I check the EGR itself.

Its the black cylinder thing on the top of the egr.

Its hard to get off without breaking it. You sort of have to pry it off with a screw driver and pliers.

it's only going to be on pre-'90 w-bodies. '90+ had a digital EGR with no vacuum control, and '96+ is a linear electronically controlled EGR.
