kfahn
I have heard mixed reviews about this, did a search, came up with very little good info, so i figured i'd open it up. Is it good? Any tech.'s know for a fact whether it does any damage, whether it is a great thing to do as opposed to just changing the fluid? :?:
lukee1982
How many miles are on the tranny and fluid? is it slipping? If it is slipping or is really high mileage. (that is just my $0.02) i personaly wouldn't recomend a flush because the old fluid is in all the little valves and if you fluch it you may make it worse. however most people hardly ever have a problem after dropping the pan and replacing the filter and gasket. (when you do this make sure to clean the magnet in the bottom of the pan) when you drain it this way you are still leaving a couple quarts of old tranny fluid in the torque converter. If you can find another magnet it wouldn't be a bad idea to put it in there. Some people have even put a drain plug in the pan so that you dont get fluid all over. hoodilio
I had a flush done on my 1993 Cuttlass and it turned out great. My trans was slippin from 1st to 2nd, so i had a trans fluid and filter and gasket change, then the same day they did a flush. The slippin stopped. Still slips some times now, 6 months later. My car had 80thousand miles on it when i got the flush.
91GranSport
I had a complete tranny flush shortly after purchasing my W-Body. I've never had any problems with the tranny since, and I think it's a lot tougher than I thought it would be. The fluid is still pink and I've put 45,000km on the vehicle so far. My next tranny service won't be a complete flush though, I'll just drop the pan and replace the filter and gasket. I'll probably do that when I hit 220,000km if it lasts that long. Redfox340
I have heard mixed reviews about this, did a search, came up with very little good info, so i figured i'd open it up. Is it good? Any tech.'s know for a fact whether it does any damage, whether it is a great thing to do as opposed to just changing the fluid? :?: Old transmission fluid is a bad thing no matter what. However, there's mixed reviews on when to change it out due to only if you're having current problems right now with slipping / high mileage. Like lukee1982 asked, what's your current condition? The more information we know, the better we can help you I got my Cutlass with 155K miles and the tranny wasn't having any problems but the fluid was burnt. I changed it out (torque flush) and have had great results with no leaking, slipping or disengagement. It's recommended every 15K miles due to the heat (even with a tranny cooler) and I'm not the one who takes chances. With currently 175K miles on the original tranny, I couldn't be more happy of it's maintenance record. Changing the filter is a good thing, and don't get me wrong... but it's made for BIG particles so that it doesn't get recirculated thru the tranny. Many shops lean more to a full system flush, aka torque flush, because the car's torque convertor does all the work and it cleans out the small particles / metal shavings suspended in the fluid. If you want to do the torque flush at home, I've got a written procedure that can be found on my website. Click below and head for the Tech Tips and you'll find it under Transmission Fluid. - RedFox340
godofthunder
Im wondering the same thing. I took the CS to Grease Monkey the other day (GFs friends own it), and they showed me my burnt tranny fluid. My last known service was before I got it, at 60k. Its now got 118. Ive come to the conclusion of just getting the pan droped, new filter, and refil. jon
