Guest RedCutlassSL
The Caprice-based Impala SS of the '90s deserved the Impala name, as well as the original '64 style Impala you see Snoop Doggy Dogg and Hazmatic driving around in. 91GranSport
You're right, both the Z34 from '95-'97 with the 3.4L Twin Cam as well as the Z34 from '98-'99 with the 3800 Series II were both faster than the '80s Monte Carlo SS with the 5.7L Chevy V-8. I'm not too sure, but I think the '80s Monte Carlo, as well as the Cutlass Supreme and Buick Regal were all G-Body cars. I'm also under the assumption that the 5.7L Chevy V-8's that were used in those cars were the L-98 with TBI. I could be wrong though, it's been a while since I've worked on one of those puppies. Personally I think the '95-'99 style Monte Carlo was a very nice car, the only problem was it was a tad bit long in the ass end. Other than that, it looked really really nice. The '00+ was simply terrible, what a poor design! I remember watching Car & Driver and one of the vehicle evaluators mentioned something about it being one of Chevy's worst vehicles of '00! I don't blame him for saying that either. Shawn, where can I find more pics about this Holden platform you've mentioned? Is that the same thing as the Opel platform? If it is then it would probably share the same chassis as the new GTO, right? I don't think I'd agree, stock vs. stock, a Z34 Monte is faster than most of the RWD Monte's of the 80's. The only thing I have against the Monte is the current body is ugly IMO. I don't like it at all. I'd honestly rather drive a Ford than a current body Monte. For the next gen Monte, I'd like to see it built on that sexy Holden platform like the GTO.
cutlassdude96
The Cutlass got the 307 (Olds) other cars got the 305 (Chevy).

The same platform comes in coupe, sedan, long wheelbase sedan, and even a truck/car hybrid similar to El Camino. It IS the same platform as the GTO. It's based on the Opel platform (like the Catera was) but I've heard the width and wheelbase are a little bigger, although I'm not certain of that. Guest Anonymous
If I had the money I'd be importing me one of those Holden SS's.
