Ceramic pads?

cermaic pads won't have as much brake dust on your wheels, or so i've heard...

Yes less dust but its also a lighter color dust than semi-metallic pads, so you dont notice it as much. Also, ceramic pads are quieter and usually last a bit longer.

Creamic pads are hard and they need to heat up in order to stop halfway decent. I have semi-metallic pads on my car and they are great. No noise at all, very little brake dust and ( I havent looked up the prices in a LONG time ) Im sure the Ceramic pads are more expensive as well. Id just go with the semi-metallic IMHO

Depends on the brand of ceramics you get. Avoid anything from Raybestos. They run hot and have glazed rotors within short order. The Prostop brand sold at pepboys is among the better ones. I've been running them on my car forever. They stop just as good as semi-met's ever could.

I've got semi-metallic on my car... Before I switched to them I had the black cross lace thing goin without paint! now they take a lot longer to get discolored by the dust...

Aside from running cooler is there any advantage to the Drilled/slotted rotors? I've heard they will increase your stopping distance because the pads are in contact with less surface area. I would see them wearing down break pads faster too...

Yes they do stop quicker because they relieve the pressure between the pads and rotor. And they shouldnt wear out faster... But then again it all depends on if your using the cheap rotors or the quality rotors and pads....

I got Duralast Gold pads (semi metalic) w/ my R1 Concept rotors. They are pretty good. As of right now I have 300 miles on them and them seem to be getting better everytime out. They seem to be great for the price. Its $30 a set at autozone.

My friend Matt has Hawk pads w/ slotted rotors on his 04 Subaru WRX. He autocrosses with them and he says they are awesome. Would they work on our cars, who knows? Its worth a shot.

Here's my experience. The Raybestos "QuietStop" pads are hard as hockey pucks and not only won't stop the car for crap, but chew up "white-box" rotors (I ran both on my old 96 Lumina.)

Right now I'm running Raybestos "PG Plus Ceramic" (a hybrid organic/ceramic pad) pads on my Malibu and they seem to work just as good as the stock ceramic pads. I have Satisfied "Pro Ceramic VS" pads on the Impaler (on all 4 corners) along with Raybestos PG Plus rotors. I'd say they actually stop the car a tad bit better than the stock ceramic pads did, although that could be because the stock rear rotors disintegrated on me.

The only problem I have with the Satisfied pads are their fittment. The rear pads chatter when you apply the brakes at low speeds, necessitating the use of "Disc Brake Pad Quiet" goop (which I hate to use.) Every set of Raybestos pads I've used fit well enough that I never needed to use goop on the back of 'em...

you must have tried a crappy ceramic. I have no issues with the prostops. I recommend them for most vehicles.

I used Napa's best Ceramic pads. I dunno what to tell you Brian. It seriously scared me how it adversely affected the braking. :dunno:
