95GTP Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Has anyone powder coated crosslace wheels? I have 6 spares in my basement, (yea 6, im a hog) and I want to powdercoat a set of 4. I like the black with polished rim look and I even painted the old ones on my TGP before I sold it. It looked great. I have seen powdercoat kits for sale and not to much either, I even have a spare oven that I can trash, the temp will get high enough fo r powdercoating and it it big enough for a wheel to fit. Just need to know how much material I need, I would guess alot since the crosslace wheel has a ton of nooks and crannies. 95GTP Quote
Q-Ball Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 No, but I plan on getting mine done. I'm not doing it myself though. Just a winter project. Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 There are DIY kits? Info PLEASE! SO many parts to powercoat Jamie Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 Yes there are DIY kits, but they do a shitty job IMHO. My neighbor used one of those and it sucked. Quote
jeremy Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 black crosslaces with a polished lip....that's an original idea ...post up some pics when they are done so I can see what that combo would look like Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 Hey the guy I bought my TGP from powdercoated my crosslaces just before I bought it. Feel free to check out my photobucket album for pics. http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j195/blackswift99/ Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I took a pic of my powder-coated crosslaces this afternoon after washing the TGP. (pic below) I need new center caps Quote
Andrew Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Those look pretty good for DIY kit. he must have taken his time. Nice tires, i have the same. yoko avid's ftw Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 It wasn't a DIY kit, he had them professionally done. I love the tires! Quote
mfewtrail Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 DIY kits work pretty good from what I've seen. If you experience shitty results using one, you're not doing something right(most likely skimping out on prep work!). Quote

95GTP Posted November 11, 2006 Author Report Posted November 11, 2006 Is the gray, rim part powdercoated too? I can see the difference in the crosslace part, nice for sure. Have fun keeping them clean. I need to get a toothbrush in the small parts, keeps me busy for about an hour but they look great after. Thats why Im thinking about black. Im getting lazy. Quote

Yes, the gray lip is powdercoated also. I just use a mix of simple green and vinegar in a spray bottle, scrub em up with a cloth, then powerwash them with hot water. Works for me. Quote
Andrew Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 simple green and vinegar are two kings of cleaning!! btw vinegar will take off clr deposits better than CLR!! just dont let the vinegar dry. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 Black is not the best color as far as keeping clean. Mud/dirt is more visible (although brake dust isn't). I'm planning on re-doing mine gunmetal. Quote
