Mach 5 Posted November 9, 2006 Author Report Posted November 9, 2006 Has anybody noticied a difference or basically no change at all? Quote
digitaloutsider Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I ran them in my 3.1, but considering that the 3.1 is a massive turd to begin with, no I didn't notice any difference. Gas milage went up, but then again, the old plugs had 160,000 miles on them. Quote
badassoldspower Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 so why is the 3.1 a "MASSIVE" turd? I see many people happy with em, at least they dont have timing belt problems like the 3.4, or random external combustionfrom injector o-ring failure like the "GOD" of the v6 3800's Quote
digitaloutsider Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 so why is the 3.1 a "MASSIVE" turd? I see many people happy with em, at least they dont have timing belt problems like the 3.4, or random external combustionfrom injector o-ring failure like the "GOD" of the v6 3800's Please. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, the 3.1 in naturally aspirated form is, and will always be, a pathetically underpowered dog of a motor. I don't care what you, or anyone else has to say about it. I love the engine for it's longevity and dependability, not it's performance. I never said it was a bad, unreliable engine. I just said it's SLOW. And when did you get a 3.4? I don't seem to remember you owning one, let alone doing timing belt maintenance on one. I never even mentioned the L67 in my post, get off your high horse. If you can do an oil change, you can change the injector o-rings. At least my intake manifold gaskets didn't go at 70,000 miles, taking a bearing down with them like a certain 60º motor I owned once. (But to be fair, some 3800's had this problem, too. It's not necessarily platform dependant). Sorry if I don't consider high 16's fast. Quote
kuntzie Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 agreed the 3.1 is slow NA... but boosted OMFG its like a whole new ball game Quote
digitaloutsider Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Agreed! Now if you and this Rick guy here in Georgia stop hogging all the nice TGP's, maybe I can get one. Quote
Brian P Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 NGK's are great in Japanese cars, yes. But they've been among the better plugs in general, especially when compared to Bosch. And with GM having NGK MAKE the "AC Delco" Iridiums, I see no problem with using them, at least on the GM's that call for it. Quote
z34Phoenix Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 i say Rapidfires plugs..... i had rapid fires in my 3.4L and loved them. when i replaced them had about 50-60 k on them i went with NGK Iridiums and to be honest i liked the rapidfires better. the engine just felt better.... cant really descibe it. no major probs but i'll get the rapid fires next time. Also that junk about them being gapped to the manf. specs is crap. make sure you gappem right! Quote
Mach 5 Posted November 11, 2006 Author Report Posted November 11, 2006 Rapidfires it is. I gapped my plugs to .045in. Why, whats wrong with the manufacturers specs? Quote
DOHCRagtopguy Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 I believe what z34Phx is saying is to double check the gap before you stick 'em in. Sometimes the boxes get smacked around and gap gets changed. I swear by Rapidfire 8s in LQ-1 engines, great plug, smooth idle. Quote
Euro Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 true that...just dont gap your plugs to .8 like my old ones were when i took em out Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 You should ALWAYS check the gap on plugs before you install them. Rapidfires are too expensive for me. I go through plugs like a little kid eats candy. The regular copper plugs are what she gets! Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 Part # for Rapidfires? Quote
Brian P Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 are rapidfires platinum? Last time I checked, they didn't specify. Quote
