Steven_S
I have a 90 regal w/ the 3800 and the automatic trans. trans fluid is full and there's a noticeable thunk when putting the car into reverse. i just want to know if this is normal. Bossman429
Sounds like a worn out motor mount to me. Look at the motor while a friend shifts it into gear, and see which motor mount is allowing the engine to move, it's probably the front 2. Mach 5
It could be the universal joints
Euro
sounds like the lower mounts to me. do the thing suggested above with your friend shifting it into reverse. Or, put the hood up and shift yourself. you should be able to see the motor with the hood up

X2 my old regal did this, my band-aid fix was to replace the dogbone most worn out (it was pretty shot) it quieted it for a while. I'm willing to bet that your lower mount isn't in much better shape though.
sclary18
my car jerks like hell when i shift into gear.. where do they have motor mounts for the cheapest and how much do they usually go for?
Addicted To Boost
If you want dogbones, go to your local JY and find a nice set of dogbones. I did this last weekend and got them for free.

sclary18
how do you even change the top motor mounts? I'm asuming you just do em one at a time and the engine will stay put?
GOT2B GM
You can remove both of them at the same time. The engine wont go anywhere. Just be sure to be parked on level ground so that the motor won't rock with the weight of the car on the parking pin.
Nick1234
i think the lower mount is $
THe_DeTAiL3R
Just go to NAPA and say you are an employee of *whatever* dealership, and they'll probably give you a discount. I get discounts almost any place that sells auto stuff, and they never ask me for proof of anything...
