GrandAmSE
Ok when I got the car the guy told me that a trans had been put in the car and it needed to be wired up to the computer right or it would always take off in 2.nd gear and not 1st when you stomp on the gas. How do I wire it up? its a 94 trans and a 92 computer.
Brian P
read: http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php/topic,50369.0.html this is the opposite install. I don't know if you can put a newer tranny in an older car since the older cars/tranny's have extra internal switches to tell the ECM what gear it's in. May be able to give it a shot though. GrandAmSE
Let my make sure you understand. When in D if you stomp the gas it should down shift and then shift to second and the RPMs drop. Mine stays in high gear and never down shifts. Brian P
Well, it is still in 2nd gear when you drive from a stop, right? I understand it not downshifting but if it's never commanded to apply 1st gear, I wouldn't expect it to ever use 1st. Also what kind of '92 vehicle are we talking about, and what is the original engine under the hood?
GrandAmSE
Its a 92 Grand Prix GTP w/ the 3.4 DOHC w the 4t60e. I got some kickass wiring diagrams and found the wiring problem. But where the hell is the conector I need toi rewire?
White93z34
1994 was a different year, so to make it properly work you need to swap ALL the wiring from the origional (or another 91-93 tranny) ointo the sidepan on the 94' trans. Brian P
Along with the internal tranny wiring comes those switches as well. Also here's an idea that may work (but may not prevent a check engine light) what if you move wire F to position A, and G to position B? That way the solenoids are at least getting the right ground signal. Keep the old "A" and "B" wires off the plug. I do agree with swapping the internal tranny harness but that is a huge PITA and I'm not sure but I think the valve body may be different as well. Oh, this connector is right under where the intake box sits. It's the only one going into that side of the tranny.
GrandAmSE
Will your idea work? If I just re-wire it like the diagram tells my what will happen?
