94CutlassXtreme
Alright, well the Cutlass has sat for over a month now, and I have deciced to keep it, reguardless of the fact that I have a GTP now. So I need to trace the issue. There are a few conclusions I've come to as well as the questions they bring up.... 1.) I mentioned that when I was testing the injectors, I jumped shorted something when I accidentaly provided the hot and ground sides of one injector with my test light, causing the doors to lock and unlock, and my alarm to go off. When I got the car running at first, the alarm siren would no longer work, but the lights would flash if i hit the keypad. Also, the keypad would no longer unlock or lock the doors. Then, the doors would lock if I put the car in drive but not unlock when I put the car in park. So basically, I fubared the alarm. So I would think the first step would be to remove that from the vehicle. 2.) I know the crank- no start is a wiring issue. I am thinking it has to do with the crank sensor. Now it was replaced before I got the car running the first time. I have however heard of an improper installation causing the crank sensor to grenade...is this true? Also, the crank sensor that was replaced was the one behind the crank pulley, what about the other crank sensor at the back of the engine...does this one serve the same purpose? 3.) I highly doubt it's the ECM I've fried....give me a break, I've gone through 3 ECM's. Two j/y ones that I had reprogrammed AND a reman with a reprogram....all set up for OBD 1.5. Is there a remote possibility that I have a bad ground for the ECM? I have no engine light when I turn the key..... Where does the ECM recieve ground from? This would be another reason as to why I have no injector pulse...as the ECM provides ground for the injectors. Would saudering a ground wire to the ECM case created a temporoary ground like it would on persay..a Ford? Also....given theres a possibility that I have a shorted sensor wire....where a the common locations for a wire to fuck itself in a 3100 W? So here's a review as to what was replaced when I got the car running the first time: -Crank sensor- behind crank pulley -ICM -3 Coils -Fuel Pump -Fuel Pump Relay -ECM ...also the reluctor wheel was cleaned when the crank sensor went in...it was gummed with oil as appearantly I need a front crank seal. Alright so that's what I got so far....any ideas, info...and in general HELP! would be appreciated. There are way to many Cutlasses falling to the wayside these days..I dont want mine to become a casuality...

Crazy K
number 2 first. your car should have a tach. does it register anything when you crank? my lumina during one of it';s no start conditions... in fact sudden stall... would have the tach snap to zero when stumbling/stalling. until it cooled down the tach would not move when cranked. turned out to be the ICM. oh, I never heard of a grenaded sensor.... there is the crank sensor that is on the rear side of the block. have you checked that one? I think the one on the pulley can go bad and have the car still run, but not the simple one on the back of the block
White93z34
are you sure that you didn't fuck-serve the alarm module? does it have a starter kill feature? i'd look to 100% removing and reverting the wiring back to factory before anywhere else. Euro
yeah im with chris...aftermarket alarms/remote starts/keyless entry's can seriously screw up your whole electrical system
19Cutlass94
Especially if the installer did a hack job. Take all that stuff out. Could be when your do, youll find this hack job and also find a loose wire, or worse. And maybe this is just from your alarm and such, but my car never unlocks when I put it in park. And just because your car cranks and doesnt start, doesnt mean its a wiring issue. Get a fuel pressure gauge and make sure you have fuel pressure. Just something to start with.... Crazy K
And maybe this is just from your alarm and such, but my car never unlocks when I put it in park. in my experience.... 93 cs lock the doors when put in drive, but do not unlock, and......................94 CS lock the doors when put in drive, and unlock when the key is turned off. Crazy K
my 92 lumina had an irregular no start condition, caused by a hacking to the starter wire from an assholes remote start install.
chadz34
my 92 lumina had an irregular no start condition, caused by a hacking to the starter wire from an assholes remote start install. Did it still crank?
Crazy K
my 92 lumina had an irregular no start condition, caused by a hacking to the starter wire from an assholes remote start install. Did it still crank? no. seemed like a dead starter. It failed the last time at an autostore, so I bought and installed a new starter and that didn't fix the problem. but a bad ICM or CPs will allow the engine to crank, but won't register it cranking..... SigEpCutlass
yupp. Thats what mine does... Same with my '94. If I were you, I'd get the aftermarket alarm outta there if you know it's interfering or possibly preventing the vehicle from running. Then see what you've got.
