ihateallmustangs
How do I do this? I pulled that black cap off and tried pulling it up by hand with no luck. Thanks
19Cutlass94
First you need 'special' tools to remove them. To get the insulator off, bounce the front of the car a couple times, itll pop up, but its much easier to take the but off before you do this. Then you need the 'special' tool to take off the strut retaining nut then you can pull the strut out. And to put on back in is just the reverse. Its very simple to do. DiscoStudd
Checker rents them also, if you have one in your area. The one I rented had instructions on the inside cover. I ran into a problem with the KYB's, whereas the large "alignment rod" in the tool kit that threads onto the end of the strut shaft had different threads on it than the KYB's. I aligned the strut/mount back into the strut tower by shaving down a large UNISTRUT "L" bracket so it fit inside the strut mount, then bolted it down against the mount. Worked great! ihateallmustangs
Had to rent the (w-body removal) kit from crappy tire $200 deposit!!. However I ran into a major snag. My passenger side hex key part was stripped on the old gas strut. Since i live in apartment I had to use a hack saw and cut the nut in half. MONROE sensitrac was what I put in. Some asshole took the 50 hex key and put a smaller one in its place. I had to go buy that.
19Cutlass94
lol you can buy the kit on ebay like said above for a fraction of that!
THe_DeTAiL3R
Who cares how much the deposite was.... you get your money back when you return the tool. That's cheaper than $30 when you might use it like once..
19Cutlass94
I really cant/shouldnt say anything about the price because with my discount from napa, I bought the tools for like $70.

The one I rented had instructions on the inside cover. yeah i was just at Checker looking at the W-body strut tool they rent. i just ordered GR-2s last night. I ran into a problem with the KYB's, whereas the large "alignment rod" in the tool kit that threads onto the end of the strut shaft had different threads on it than the KYB's. CRAP. i don't want to deal with this kind of problem...i might just have Midas put the struts in since the car has to go there for an alignment later anyway. 19Cutlass94
When I put my struts in, I didnt even use that 'alignment rod'...
