Sluggish Engine.

Well, it seems like when I try to accelerate normally it takes a while to et up to speed, the engine sounds and revs normally but takes a bit longer to get to speed. Basically it seems as if it revs but doesn't move as quickly as it should. When placed in drive when it's warm the car doesn't roll very quickly, it moves faster in reverse. Just wondering if I should have the tranny fluid changed if that could be the problem. I have platinum plugs in my car too. But, the dealership said my car was supposed to have them. I told him that 3.4 DOHC's were supposed to use regular plugs that they ruin platinum plugs but he assured me mine came with platinums from the factory. I did Seafoam my car as I asked about in my previous thread and I just am sick of this car, but love it too much to get rid of it. I just want it fixed....thanks.

it has horrible low end

<-- waits for the people to say I'm dumb

seriously though, does it seem to have good pickup in the midrange area? like if you hit it around 20mph or so does it just take off? also, did you ever get it timed right?

Yeah, it downshifts and throws you in the seat real good. The dealership re-timed it and did all the work to it. Just normal accelerating seems sluggish like it sits at 3 grand for a little bit trying to get to 60 km/h. Just the speedo doesn't move as fast as I think it should for the revs the engines making....How does yours accelerate Matt?

Check the trans fluid levels at all?? Low trans fluid can make the car seem like its labouring. I noticed this instantly when I hadn't put enough fluid in after changing out the diff on the cutlass.

sounds like yours is the same as mine. i know i need new plugs and to fix my vaccuum lines, but it still has the power where it should be. normal acceleration will seem sluggish. I can't break my tires loose (not the 19"s anyways) even when trying, but once up to about 20 or 25 i could probably hit it, downshift, and squak them a bit.

Well, I guess it's becuase all other vehicles I have driven were OHV pushrod engines with low end power, such as my mom's Blazer. But the Z34 seems like it accelerates easier. I have no vacuum leaks and I do need new plugs. I am gonna have the tranny fluid chaned and I'll see where that gets me. Thanks Matt and RegalGS1989!

That sounds just like my car, but it's a 3600 lb convertible with the 3.1. The engine has to rev up to 2500-3000 rpm range to be just barely out of the grandma acceleration zone. If I give it light enough throttle to keep rpms at or below 2500 rpm, I am essentially a traffic obstruction.

If, however, I stab at the gas when I'm already at or above 2500 rpm, it will be able to keep up with most ordinary drivers driving ordinarily.
