PCV Question

I've seen at least 1 3500 UMI that was so cleaned up, they got rid of the opening on the TB neck that the PCV valves dump into.

main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=2223&g2_serialNumber=5

I'd like to do this seeing as how 1 I cracked the hard plastic PCV tube that connects both PCV's and runs into the hole on the intake and it's being held together by duct tape and 2 it just looks cleaner. Seems like it would keep the intakes cleaner too.

But what would you put in place of the PCV valves? Would just 2 typical breather filters work like you see on build V8's and such? Is there any use to the PCV system aside from being more helpful to the air?

Thanks.

PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation.

It´s a good thing.

It will keep the crankcase free from sludging up.

The PCV valve is a service item that needs to be replaced like a service item in the same manner like an oilfilter and such....

I know what it is... doesn't really help me though hah.

Could I connect the 2 PCV valves together via hose and put a breather filter on the end and hide it somewhere? I assume "positive" means the little ball inside the valve only lets air out when pressure starts to build in the valvecover, otherwise you won't want air entering through there correct?

Do you have a 3100?

Mine also had hte problem with the stupid little vac hoses crack at the top of the intake. Damn $30 dealership item, but I was sick of the ghetto-fix I had which kept leaking.

Anyways, on my car there is only 1 PCV valve on the front- the back is just a hose that connects to the rubber intake hose IIRC.

Yes a 96 3100. From what it felt like, it felt as if there was another PCV valve on the back valve cover that the line went to as well. I know it goes to something, i'll reach back there and try to check again sometime when it's not 40* and raining outside.

Either way, can I get rid of the system?
