peeeot
Let's say you check your spark plugs at random and find that they are carbon-fouled: the electrodes and insulator are covered in a fine, dry, black powdery substance, the product of a rich air/fuel mixture (or weak ignition). You find the source of the problem and repair it, but you don't do anything with the spark plugs--don't clean them, or replace them. Will the spark plugs return to a clean, "normal" state on their own from normal driving, or will they remain black and sooty until they are cleaned or replaced? Addicted To Boost
The plugs will NOT clean themselves. You need to replace them, especially since they are carbon fouled.

19Cutlass94
they cheap enough replace em! x2. for how cheap these plugs are, its not worth trying to re-use them.
customgod227
Def, spark plugs are like a dime a dozen now and days! You would be amazed on how bad a car can run with bad plugs, or even if they are gapped wrong!
peeeot
Well, that sounds like a clear enough answer. But we are certain that they will not clean themselves? I'm trying to make sure that I'm not chasing a problem that doesn't exist.
19Cutlass94
They do not clean themselves. If you want to try this out, replace half the plugs with new ones, and put 3 of the olds ones in and do not clean them. Then a couple thousand miles later check them out. They will be the same or worse if you dont drop a cylinder first.
Addicted To Boost
Stop screwing around with the old plugs and replace them with new ones. It is EXTREMELY cheap to replace your plugs. You'd be surprised at how much better it will run with new plugs.
THe_DeTAiL3R
WErd regular AC Delcos are like $3 each or something. Although one I bought was bad so I just cleaned up one of the old ones and it runs fine.
peeeot
Fair enough. I'll get me some new plugs.
Addicted To Boost
Should run much better once they are installed.
peeeot
actually these plugs are in a different car I have, here's a pic of them. The one on the right is one that's been in there since I rebuilt the engine, and the other is a new one that was in the car for about 30 min. of running, with a lot of idling and a fair amount of acceleration and speeds at or below 40 mph. what do you think, have I got it tuned adequately, or is it still rich/weak ignition? edit: I can never get pics to show up here.
