dohc v6 Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 I was told that a different year will fit the older style w-bodys. Anybody know anything about this and a part number Quote
slick Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Just a replacement starter? Just go to the auto parts store and get one for pretty much any newer GM 2000+ FWD car(this includes the 4 and 6 cylinder cars, they all use the same starter). Quote
PCGUY112887 Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Go to your parts store and ask for a starter for a 2003 V6 Grand Am. Edit - Wait we're talking about for an older 3100/3400 right? (dunno if the DOHC starters are the same or not). Quote

Same with the 3100's, 3400's, 2.2's, 2.4's, etc.... Quote

dohc v6 Posted October 20, 2006 Author Report Posted October 20, 2006 anybody got a gm part number- I know I am lazy Quote
99RegalGS Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 L67's have came with a more powerful starter than the 60*'s and the L36. IIRC it's ~2.3hp vs like 2hp. Not a big difference, but some. Quote
Q-Ball Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 I just bought a rebuilt with 1 year warrenty from Canadian Tire. They will give you 65 bucks for your old one too! Quote
5speedz34 Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 When I replaced mine I asked for a starter for a '99 Malibu IIRC. It was the smallest I could find as opposed to any other 60* car. Quote
dohc v6 Posted October 26, 2006 Author Report Posted October 26, 2006 i cant find one under 140.00 Quote
dohc v6 Posted October 26, 2006 Author Report Posted October 26, 2006 will this work http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/STARTER-GM-Chevy-Cavalier-Impala-Lumina-Malibu-PONTIAC_W0QQitemZ180042092342QQihZ008QQcategoryZ33576QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Quote
Dpunchboy Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 2.3 (Q4) and 2.4 (TC) starters will NOT work. Just to correct a little slip up there Quote

Psych0matt Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 when i picked mine up, it was actually cheaper than the exact replacement Quote
Q-Ball Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 My new starter sounds a lot different than my old one. It sounds more higher pitched. But it does starter quicker and I've never had a bad start. Quote
