gmrulz4u
I think I remember reading that you can just "lift up on the diaphragm with your fingers(protected)" and the engine should "stumble" or "die"...is this correct!? I have the Negative Backpressure vacuum controlled EGR set-up from 1989. THANKS!
Pabz
I just pushed in the diaphram while the engine was running, i noticed it was rusty and a little stuck, so i dowsed it with wd-40 and its good, but i did buy a used one from jorge, and i didn't even need it, damn!!! so yeah just push it in
gmrulz4u
Cool thanks man! And when you "pushed it in", did you notice any engine idling reaction? I was just wondering because you said you saw some rust and shit, but you didn't really say what how the engine reacted to the diaphragm being lifted... THANKS AGAIN! Pabz
It starts to studder depending how far you push it on, if you push it in all the way you'll stall.
gmrulz4u
OK cool...and so I assume that if it does NOT "stumble", there's something wrong with the EGR system, such as being stuck open/on, right? THANKS A MILLION!
Pabz
its all basically mechnical, if the diaphram goes in when you push it then its not stuck, when are you gonna be doing this, are you trying to diagnose a problem, because the main problem with the egr is it starts to recurculate the exhaust gas when your at high speeds, and then when you slow down its stuck open so you get stumbling and perhaps stalls. By pushing in, and excerciseing the egr with some lubricant like wd-40 you should be able to get it to work better, but if its stuck open and not working then it would be difficult to keep the engine idling at a start even. Then you need to replace it.
