GrandAmSE Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Ok I drove the GTP today evertime I turn I get this popping sound from somewhere on the car. I can really tell where. It's only when I make sharp turns like turning a corner. Any ideas? Quote
5speedz34 Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Could be anything, can you determine where its coming from... I mean you leave it really open ended. Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Can you tell if it's coming from the front or the rear? Does it happen only when you turn one way, or does it make the noise in both directions? Chances are I'd say it's coming from up front if it makes the noise when you're turning. Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 I'm wondering what this is myself. My TGP makes a "clunking" noise from the front end when turning sharply left or right. Quote
stevegasm Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Sounds like it could be tie rods. I've heard they tend to break often, around 50k miles *crosses fingers* Quote

Brian P Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 I think you mean sway bar links, not tie rods. Quote
GrandAmSE Posted October 18, 2006 Author Report Posted October 18, 2006 It feel like its coming from the front right under the front seats. Its turning both ways. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Im going take a bet on the strut tower bearing plate. Mine was all kinds of messed up and made that same noise your taking about and I could feel it on the floor of the car.... Quote
White93z34 Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 could be a large number of things, balljoints, tie rods, tie rod ends, steering rack bolts, or cradle bolts/bushings. pull the wheels and start insoecting everything. Quote

That's probably the best advice in this thread. thanks tony. i mean its not a bad idea to change all the wear items, these cars aren't young anymore and with the majourity of them being way up there in the mileage department chances are the suspension items are wore out or darn close to it, it isan't cheep, but redoing my suspension is some of the best money i've spent on my car. blkinternational Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 ill bet its cardle mounts Quote
Mach 5 Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 It could be the cradle bolts because you say its coming from underneath the front seats. But it also could be the universal joints because thats usually where the popping is coming from. The last idea is that it could be the transmission mounts. They could need tightning. I doubt its ball joints but you should check them anyway just to be safe. Is there any play in the steering wheel? Quote
GrandAmSE Posted October 20, 2006 Author Report Posted October 20, 2006 Car just had a trans put in by a redneck and I bet he forgot to tight them like he forgot to tight the lugs on the Drivers front. Screwed up a perfectly good fender when that wheel came off. Stupid ****!! Quote
Mach 5 Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Yeah.........I would look into that. Quote
GrandAmSE Posted October 20, 2006 Author Report Posted October 20, 2006 lol Yeah I completely forgot about that. They put in a 96 trans and never wired it up right so its slow off the line. Quote
UWISHU1 Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 mine started making a funny noise too. When I accelerate I feel I pop/bang underneath my feet. It doesn't make a peep whle drivng down the road. I got underneath and couldn't find anything lose Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 What year is the GTP? IIRC, if it's a '94+ there shouldn't be any sort of problem with the cradle mounts. Wasn't the cradle problem with '88-'93? Quote
blkinternational Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 my car is a 94 and i had cradle mount problems.. Quote
5speedz34 Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 my car is a 94 and i had cradle mount problems.. They all eventually wear out its just rubber. The recall covers 88-91 W's in certain states. Quote
GrandAmSE Posted October 26, 2006 Author Report Posted October 26, 2006 OH in that case I mean my cars a 91. lol Quote
5speedz34 Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 OH in that case I mean my cars a 91. lol Well, then the cradle mounts could be bad. Like we said before go down there and take a look. Quote
