bryanb Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 Any idea on what would cause the little red battery idiot light to be on all the time? Its off at idle, but at any other RPM other than that its on all the time. (so its fine when the car is just on and idling, but as soon as you hit the gas, the light comes on and stays on) The battery and alternator have been tested a couple times, and i'm told are fine. This did start when a blinker flasher was replaced under the dash. Maybe a wire was knocked loose? Quote
Regal_GS_1989 Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 I would try and test the alternator with a multimeter. Basically you just touch it to the battery posts and watch the voltage as the car idles and then again when you rev it up. It is possible that the alternator is overcharging at anything above idle, and that would cause the light to come on.The multimeter should read anywhere from about 13.5 to 15 V. Any lower or any higher, and there would be a problem. Quote

Crazy K Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 There is a ground wire latched down by the screw that holds the bracket for the turnsignal flasher (located on the substructure support above the brake pedal.) did you by chance damage that? does it have the actual voltmeter? what does that read? any sign of a real problem, a real failing alt??? and go into profile and put your car in your signature to let us know!
